A Trip to the Polish Seaside with Children

Jolita, one of the founders of “Travelling with children”, has been to the Polish seaside many times. Traveled even without children, because the OPEN’ER festival has been held in Gdynia for more than 20 years! Choose the Polish seaside if you‘re travelling with children, because on the Polish seaside you will find great beaches, cheaper resorts, lots of entertainment and wonderful gastronomy.

This article prepared by us is an excellent guide to prepare a trip to the Polish seaside with children. Follow this guide and we can assure you that your trip will be smooth, interesting and unforgettable. You will find information about Gdynia, Gdańsk, Sopot, Hel.

We always stay in Gdynia or nearby. From there it is easy to reach HEL (the so-called Nida of Poland), Gdańsk and Sopot.

Last time we’ve visited the place we lived in the town of Rewa, in the villa Dobrylko, which has a mini playground in the yard. We liked the town, but we were not lucky with the weather, so we looked for activities outside the yard. By the way, there are kite spots in the town, so it is perfect for kite surfers.

Gdynia with Children

A modern port city was built “from scratch” on the sandy beach of the Baltic Sea. Take a walk on the promenade, eat ice cream, have a snack in a cafe, go to the playground on the beach.

Beaches available in Gdynia: Babie Doły, Orłowo, Redłowo beach and our favorite city beach.

Gdynia – Entertainment with Children

Aquarium

We recommend visiting the aquarium – there you will find fish, amphibians and reptiles from all over the world. In front of the aquarium is the museum ship Dar Pomorza, considered the most beautiful three-masted ship in Poland.

Aquapark Reda

And if the weather doesn’t spoil you – visit the Aquapark Reda, a land of water adventures. In this land of colorful pools and spinning slides, you can find real sharks swimming in a huge coral reef aquarium. The most impressive of all is the AquaSpinner, the first spinning slide in Europe!

In the water park you will find the Shark Landing Track. From the jaws of the shark right into the pool with real sharks, this is the best slide in the world. Jumping into the shark’s open jaws, we begin a 60-meter long exhilarating slide.

The Pirate Bay is a pool for the smallest with a wonderful ship with seven water slides. The 30 cm deep pool is a paradise for the smallest. The baby can play safely. Here you can find pool water cannons and seven slides.

Science Center “Experyment”

The Eksperiment science center has an interactive exhibition that provides space for creative experiments. Various themes, interactive entertainment – see, touch, and learn.

We invite everyone to visit and embark on a journey to discover and explore the world. Such science exhibitions, workshops and events engage, educate and entertain. Various themes, interactive entertainment – visit, see, touch and learn. We especially recommend it to children who are interested in everything.

Gdynia – Places to Shop and Eat

The largest shopping center in Northern Poland is called “Riviera”. Here you will find 240 shops, restaurants, cafes, a playground for children, and a cinema.

Our discovery is a restaurant with a view of the harbor. There is also a children’s menu. Delicious food can be found in Mondo di Vinegre, a restaurant with a wonderful view.

Gdansk with Children

The best way to enter the city is through the Golden Gate, then walk along the Royal Road. We recommend taking a guided city tour.

The city is charming with colorful houses and known for its royal ships. And if you want to look at the city from the other side – go to a sightseeing tour of Gdańsk in a 12-seater replica of a historic Polish ship.

If you are interested in history, visit the History Museum located in the main town hall. Be sure to take the kids to the observation gallery, where you can look down on Gdańsk from above. Right next to the Town Hall is Neptune, the most famous fountain in Gdańsk.

Beaches in Gdańsk: Jelitkowo, Jelitkowo Klipper, Brzezno Marina, Brzezno Spa, Stogi, Sobieszewo, Orle and Swibno.

We advise: consider taking a tourist card – if you plan to visit many places of interest, the most convenient and economical solution is to get a Gdańsk tourist card. There are 3 types of tourist cards: “Transport”. “Excursions” and “Family and Fun”. The family package gives you free entry to 12 attractions and discounts at 21 attractions, entertainment venues, as well as 15 restaurants and cafes.

Fun with Children in Gdańsk

Oliwa Zoo

We recommend spending one day visiting Oliwa, the largest zoo in Poland. It covers an area of about 125 hectares and contains animals from all seven continents.

You will meet elephants, giraffes, hippos, monkeys, penguins, kangaroos. Attracting many predator lovers, lions are the biggest attraction in recent times.

In addition to beautiful walking areas where you can admire the beauty of nature, you can also go on a tour on the “Retro Train” or go horseback riding. The “Little Zoo” created for the smallest visitors is the only place in the entire zoo where children can feed and touch the animals.

The “monkey trough” is an additional attraction. This is a rope course for small lovers of active recreation.

Hewelianum Center

The Hewelianum Center, a science center, is a must-see for every child visiting Gdańsk. Here, children can enjoy the creative playground, Mr. Kleks’s laboratory and Movement Gallery, nightly ghost encounters.

National Maritime Museum

You will also feel the atmosphere of the Gdańsk seaside in the National Maritime Museum. A lot of entertainment awaits you – you will learn about maritime history and culture thanks to carefully selected exhibits. Everything is designed for the pleasure of the smallest visitors who would like to feel like real sailors. Organize a regatta and manage ship and yacht models. Take the opportunity to see the only exhibition in Poland where you can board a real ship.

Free Entertainment

Kraina Zabawy Reagan Park in the Przymorze district of Gdansk. There is a free playground on the coast where you will have fun – the playground has carousels, slides, swings, wooden houses and climbing walls. There is a promenade for wheelchairs and a bicycle path next to the playground. There is a special Skate Plaza for those who love rollerblading or skateboarding.

Where to eat in Gdańsk

Visit the legendary Hard Rock Cafe. Here you can get a very good offer – a burger and a drink for just 15.50 euros.

Sopot with Children

We called Sopot the “Palanga” of Poland. Clean sand on the beaches of Sopot and safe swimming in the sea are just some of the places you can visit with children.

We associate Sopot with many beaches and restaurants right “on the sand”. Restaurants and cafes have equipped beach playgrounds, some even offer the possibility of leaving a child in care.

The wooden bridge of Sopot is of 511 meters of width and is the longest wooden pier in Europe. Only we found it strange that the entrance to the wooden part of the pier from April 30 until September 30 is paid. Especially when we in Lithuania have the wonderful Palanga Bridge.

Take a walk along the Sopot beach – you will see one of the most impressive Grand hotel hotel with wonderful flower gardens. In the city itself, there are beautiful squares, squares, the city is organized and planted with flowers. Sopot’s wide sandy beaches, stretching for 4.5 km. These are some of the best maintained beaches in the Bay of Gdańsk.

Take a walk through the Monciak’s main promenade. Go to the celebrity Sopot’s Crooked House. It’s definitely the most popular selfie spot in town.

Sopockie Blonia is a great place with children. Recreational area of several hectares. Here you will find playgrounds with swings, carousels, sandboxes, tunnels, climbing rocks and more. There is an area for playing football, barbecues and a dog walk.

On days when the weather is worse, you can spend the day enjoying water activities at the Sopot Water Park.

HEL – Polish Nida

The real heart of Hel is Wiejska Street, considered one of the most beautiful streets in the tourist towns on the Polish Baltic Sea. There are many fishermen’s houses, restaurants, bars, cafes and shops where tourists can taste traditional cuisine and buy souvenirs.

Hel also has the existing lighthouse, whose location is strategic. Thanks to that, ships sailing to the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia know how to choose so as not to get stuck in the coastal shallows.

An undoubted attraction for the smallest tourists visiting Hel is the famous seal sanctuary, Sea station of the Institute of Oceanography of the University of Gdańsk. Despite the fact that the seal center is very popular for visitors, it is a research and science facility that shows how seals live in the sea. Several times a day, you can watch the animals being fed during medical training, and all the while you can watch the various games and fun that the seals enjoy while swimming in the pools.

We drive to Hel for a full day because of Hel’s beaches and dunes, a great place to spend time with the kids and also visit the seal sanctuary together.

Traveling from the Polish Seaside with Children is an Unexpected Discovery when Returning to Lithuania

On our way back to Lithuania, we stopped to rest and spend the night in the town of Ilawa. The tourist resort is located in the Ilawskie lakes, by the longest lake in Poland – Jeziorak. A beautiful cozy town, cozy restaurants, concerts and colorful fountains. It’s a great place if you don’t want to rush home.
