A Social Initiative by “Traveling with Children”

In the regions and villages of Lithuania, there are many businesses developed by elderly people who have reached retirement age. Rural tourism projects are also implemented, and various educations are organized. In order to know our nation, we must know the customs, traditions, culture. Today, traditions and crafts are reborn in an interesting format as an engaging educational activity with a flavor of history and tradition.

The social initiative by “Traveling with children” is a virtual map, where tourism and education-related businesses run and developed by elderly people are presented to the public free of charge and attractively.

“Traveling with children” identified that the biggest problem is that businesses, education and projects developed for the elderly often do not receive sufficient interest and awareness in society. There are several reasons for this. For example, elderly people do not have the technological abilities to present themselves in the social space and media. They also don’t have enough funds for it.

Currently, there are more than 60 social initiative objects on the map. You can find them by selecting the “Social initiative” icon and the object type.

By cooperating with various tourism centers throughout Lithuania, the Lithuanian Rural Tourism Association aims to introduce as many such businesses of elderly people as possible. By popularizing the map for those traveling with children, we are trying to help the businesses of elderly people. We help them get more attention and visitors. And the public will learn about non-traditional, interesting and educational places and activities.

Maybe you know an elderly person who has a business related to tourism (provides education, is a folk artist, has a museum or rural tourism homestead)? You should write to us and let us know! Or invite them to fill the questionnaire by “Traveling with children.”
