Birzai with children is a great place because there are activities for everyone, from those who like to quietly explore historical sites to travellers who are thirsty for adventure and fun.

For the little ones who are active, the most fun is, of course, to be had in Kirkilai Park. Kirkilai amusement park

Kirkilai Amusement Park is a place for the whole family, with a wide range of activities suitable for the little ones, teenagers and adults alike:

  • The Cartoon Heroes Park – handmade sculptures of spectacular beauty, where everyone will stop for a selfie.
  • The Gravity House – even those who believe in the laws of physics can find it very interesting. No one can believe what they see until they’ve experienced it.
  • Tunnel of illusions – in the tunnel of illusions you will be disconnected from reality and you will not be able to control your body, even though you will be on a completely stable and flat surface.

In addition to these attractions, there are many other fun activities for the whole family at Kirkilai Amusement Park: a house of horrors, disc golf, mini golf, archery and air soft gun shooting, electric quad biking, a rabbit area, a NATURA 2000 bird trail, a trampoline, a hemp maze and a horror maze.

Northern Ranch (Siaurine ranca)

The Northern Ranch is a pet home for a variety of pets – alpaca, llama, pony, mini-horse, mini-sheep, Shawn the sheep, donkey, mini-goats, rabbits, peacocks, pheasants, ducks, chickens, canaries, and others. You can not only visit these animals, but also feed them or pet them. This is a complete NEW PLACE that is worth visting in Birzai with children.

And to keep the little ones busy, the Northern Ranch also has a carousel for them to have fun on. There is also an outdoor café for the hungry and thirsty.

Lavender Farm

Visit the Lavender Farm and discover the tranquillity of Lithuanian lavender fields and the natural products produced here for beauty, health and home cosiness.

The Lavender Farm welcomes visitors during the summer season from June to September.

After enjoying the lavender at the lavender farm and seeing the lavender up close, you can relax in the farm’s cosy café. Enjoy a leisurely cup of tea or coffee, and savour the delicacies – cakes, cupcakes and macaroons. The café also offers lavender and tea from the farm’s garden.

The Lavender Farm Provence Shop offers lavender and rose hydrolats, soaps, bath bubbles, lavender honey, body scrubs, scented pouches, and many more fragrant products. Stop by for a consultation, to find out how to use it or just to chat!

The lavender farm offers educational sessions and workshops.

Monteball

MONTEBALL is an outdoor game and a great way to relax with family, friends or colleagues!

Take a stroll through the spacious park of Mantagailiškis Manor (the manor dates back to the 16th century), playing a unique game – MONTEBALL.

The principle of the game is to hit the ball into the holes in the park’s meadow with as few kicks as possible, but it’s not that simple – the park is about 20 hectares in size, and you can’t hit the ball into the sandpit (and there will be more than 50 of them all around!).

Interestingly:

  • The game can be played by young and old alike, as it requires no prior physical training and the number of participants can range from 5 to 63.
  • MONTEBALL has become particularly popular when played in teams, for various personal or corporate celebrations.

Birzai beach

Located on the shores of Lake Sirvena, Birzai Beach is the town’s beach where you can soak up the sun and cool off on a hot summer’s day.

The new children’s playground

The new children’s playground, located in the square next to the Evangelical Reformed Church is definately worth visting when you are in Birzai with children. The playground is equipped with the YALP MEMO interactive multifunctional smart play equipment.

YALP MEMO is a multi-functional smart device that develops physical activity, tactics, logical thinking, creativity, team play and reaction. The interactive device combines fun video and outdoor games by offering maths tasks (increasing in complexity with success), colour and memory games.

Eco barefoot park

A stone path with sand around the bend. Later, you have to walk through sawdust, stones of different sizes and shapes and planks. Walking through reeds, twigs and cones is also pleasant. You can jump from stump to stump, and walk on the simplest black soil. There is also a drainage ditch to cross, then a wooden bridge to climb up and a steep descent. It is fun to walk on simple sand or even gravel after sharp pebbles. After a break in the middle of the trail, you can sit on a bench and take a break… The length of the trail is 1300 metres!

Milisiunai sheep farm

Kristina and Juris Milišiūnai’ sheep farm in the village of Dvargaliai has around 800 sheep of various breeds (old Lithuanian, German and Prussian breeds mostly).

One of the five yurts has been built to house an exhibition of sheep, with over 1000 exhibits. The shelves are filled with sheep-related artefacts and souvenirs collected over more than ten years. The exhibition includes cups of different shapes, colours and textures, toy and souvenir sheep, and a variety of clothes decorated with sheep. The exhibits are made of various materials – clay, glass, wood, wool and felt.

Milisiunai sheep farm offers:

  • Educational programme “Sheep will clothe and feed you” (must be booked in advance);
  • A “sea” of sheep and wool houses;
  • Exotic surroundings and dishes (hot dishes or cold snacks) made from sheep meat for family celebrations, fun gatherings of friends and relatives, corporate parties;
  • Sheep of different breeds;
  • Wool and wool products;
  • Tasting of sheepmeat and sheep’s milk products;
  • The opportunity to try a special dry sauna on wool;
  • A collection of more than 1000 exhibits of lambs collected by the owners;
  • Leisure time on a sheep farm;
  • Rooms available to rent for seminars and conferences for up to 50 people.

Homestead “The farmstead oasis”

This homestead features a playground, farmed fallow deer and a four-legged friend, Narsas, who is a faithful guardian and friend of the homestead. Also visit the mystical Stone Valley, which has become a real tourist attraction thanks to its special energy, which will help you to make your dreams, wishes and desires come true…

Astravas Manor Farmstead

Astravas is a part of Birzai town on the northern shore of Lake Sirvena by the Apascia River. In 1862, the aristocrats built a two-storey palace with a belvedere tower. The Italian villa-style palace is one of the most beautiful Romantic period manor residences in Lithuania.

Butautai Manor

Butautai Manor has been known since 1750, and although it is not clear who the first owners of the manor were, it is known that beer was brewed in the manor’s cellars from the beginning. Nowadays, the manor is also used for brewing, tasting and education, but for the time being the building is temporarily closed. You can only see it from the outside (which is also worth seeing).

Mantagailiskes Manor

Mantagailiškės Manor takes its name from the surname of the noble Montigailai, which has been around Biržai since the 16th century. At present, on the initiative of the owner, Sigitas Kalkis, detailed archaeological research is being carried out on the territory of the manor house, structural research and restoration of the palace is being carried out, and the park is being landscaped, where tournaments of the patented game Monteball, named after the manor house, take place.

Karst sinkhole Cow Cave

The Cow Cave is the best-known and best-studied geological monument of republican importance in Northern Lithuania. “The Cow Cave” is still actively developing. Its parameters, the length of the caves, the shape of the sinkholes and other voids are changing. It is said that a cow once burned in this place – only the end of the chain is left near the cave.

The Kirsoniai Stone

This is the largest boulder in Birzai Regional Park and one of the largest in Birzai District. It was brought by a glacier during the last ice age 10,000 years ago.

Badger Cave sandpit and nature trail

The trail is located in the Karajimiškis Landscape Reserve, in the Mantagailiškis “Gojelis” forest. The footpath is located in a 2,5 ha area, on a confluent soil surface. The total length of the trail is 700 m. The geological trail consists of a cognitive trail, stairs and footbridges and information signs. The trail offers a view of 13 sinkholes, three of which are more complex in shape and have two or three previously open sinkholes in their bowls, including the Badger Cave, which is formed from two formerly connected sinkholes that are now 32 m long and 3,5 m deep.

Spring Smardone

The bitter taste and the smell of hydrogen sulphide gas brought Smardone Spring to the attention of the local inhabitants a long time ago, and the specific smell logically dictated the choice of its name (Smardone means smelly). They did not use the water from this spring for cooking meat, coffee or tea, but for baking bread, bathing; the water was suitable for sipping for healing, for washing eyes, and for soaking sore hands and feet in the spring.

The spring of Kucgalis

The Kucgalis spring has a story to tell: it is said that in 1946 Russia ran out of oil and the Russians looked for it even in Lithuania. Many wells were drilled, but the Russians failed to find oil. Instead, near Kučgalis, a well started leaking water. In 2015, the area around the spring was renovated and landscaped with a fire pit, a birch forest, a new gazebo and a new roof for the spring.

The northernmost point in Lithuania

The Birzai region has a lot to boast about! Here you can visit the northernmost point of Lithuania!

To reach Lithuania’s northernmost point, head towards Aspariškės, the northernmost village in Lithuania. From Aspariškės to the northernmost point along the Nemunėlis River, you have to walk about three kilometres. The trail follows a forest path with signs every few kilometres.

Sodeliskes Museum of Ancient Household

The Sodeliskes Museum of Ancient Domestic Life features an ensemble of 7 buildings: an authentic homestead from the beginning of the 20th century, the only working windmill in Lithuania, a blacksmith’s forge, a barn with agricultural machinery and carts, a granary with a rich collection of household utensils, a sauna where home-brewed beer is brewed, and a barn with domesticated animals. The whole territory of the farmhouse is open to the public, with no time limit. There are deer, mouflon, fallow deer and alpacas nearby.

The Pathephones Museum at the farmstead of Ale Podeniene

Over 150 exhibits! This exhibition contributes to the idea of promoting the culture of waste. It collects pre-owned gramophones of different designs, from different eras and countries, that are no longer in use.

Sigute Kiauleniene Family’s Doll Museum

The Sigute Kiauleniene Family’s Museum displays around 150 dolls created by Sigutė herself and decorated with a variety of clothes, as well as over 1 200 donated and collected dolls, and vintage household utensils and tools.

Gallery of antique teapots

The Gallery of Antique Teapots – is a real world of tea in Birzai. “The Birzai Teahouse” collection has more than 800 exhibits and is growing fast! Here you will find tea and everything that goes with tea. You can admire the teapots and other details that make the shop unique by sitting at a table on the impressive floral vintage chairs. While sipping tea in the tearoom, you can see the impressive collection of teapots and book a room on the second floor of the building to stay in a hotel that even has chandeliers made of teapots!

Birzai Castle – Birzai Regional Museum SELA

Families are welcome to visit the museum and have a wonderful time. Take part in educational programmes introducing the life of the Dukes’ Palace, 17th-18th century warfare and the customs of traditional festivals.

Narrow Gauge Railway Complex

The Birzai Narrow Gauge Railway is a 750 mm gauge railway, the longest railway in Europe and one of the most unique heritage sites in our country, which is why the surviving sections of the narrow gauge railway are a protected cultural property.

Birzai Regional Park Visitor Information Centre

The centre features an exhibition introducing the unique values of this protected area. The main theme of the exposition is “The Land of the Shifting Ground”, as the Birzai region is famous for its sinkholes and interesting geological processes. Visitors can experience the scale of the borehole depth and the changes in the geological layers with the help of an interesting and interactive exhibition stand.

The longest pedestrian bridge in Lithuania

Lake Sirvena covers an area of about 325 hectares and the 525 m long bridge over it is the longest pedestrian bridge in Lithuania. Today, the bridge is visited by fishermen, honeymooners, townspeople and visitors who want to admire the town, the tranquillity of the lake and the bridge walk to Astravas Manor.

This is a great place for families to spend some quality time. Here you will see an impressive observation tower, and climb up to 32 metres to admire the exceptional beauty of the karst lakes.

Of course, you’ll also notice the nature trail. It starts right next to the tower, and you will even see several resting places where you can sit down, relax and build a fire. As you walk along the trail, you will see a wooden quay where you can swim. Further along you will see a sound catcher, an insect hotel and of course a children’s playground.

Kirkilai karst lakes

A very large number of sinkholes have sunk below the water table and turned into lakes, with a density of 200 pcs/km2. There is also a walking trail here, which is a great opportunity to observe these unique water bodies from very close up. This is a unique phenomenon in Europe, as the lakes are home to colonies of green and purple sulphur bacteria, which are also found only in Italy. There is a walking trail.

The Sodeliskes Mill

Sodeliskes Manor Farmstead has a real old working mill, an organic farm, an authentic 20th-century farmhouse, a farmhouse in the village of Sodeliškis. The farmhouse is a modern, authentic Highland homestead. During an excursion or educational tour, you can see a working windmill dating back to 1924, a collection of antique motorcycles, machines, tractors and steam engines. See deer, fallow deer and mouflon up close. Guided tours/educations are available if you have a group of 10 friends.

Sodeliskes Technical Museum

The museum features collections of vintage steam tractors, tractors, buses, trucks, special-purpose machinery, pre-war and Soviet-era cars, motorcycles, bicycles. The museum features exhibits such as an 1898 CASE steam tractor, a 1929 Oldsmobile, a 1942 Cadillac, and luxury GAZ 13 and GAZ 14 “Čaikas”.

Restaurant Beer road /Alaus kelias

The restaurant Alaus kelias / Beer Road at Rinkuskiai Brewery offers special dishes. The beer restaurant’s menu is unique in the region Be sure to try the gourmet dishes: spicy beer soup, beetroot salad cooked in black beer with goat’s cheese, cashews, lentils and grapes, beef sirloin steak with a peppery dark beer dressing.

The beer restaurant organises presentations on the history of the beer region and tastings of Rinkuškiai beer.

The spacious, classically decorated, two-storey restaurant can seat up to 200 people. The interior of the restaurant recalls the history of the Birzai region: its walls are decorated with a drawing of the 1654 map of the Duchy of Birzai and a map of the Birzai region painted on canvas. The village of Rinkuskiai, which belonged to the Radvilas family at the time, is also clearly visible in the painting. The restaurant is decorated with the geological treasures of the Birzai region – dolomite and limestone.

Ale Podeniene homestead

Homestead located in the village of Vinksniniai, surrounded by pine trees next to the Roveja stream. In the homestead you will be able to immerse yourself in a relaxing holiday, enjoying the comfort and being cared for by untouched nature.

Holidaymakers can enjoy basketball and volleyball. Canoeing on the Nemunas River is organised. Recreation area for children.

There is an exhibition of gramophones in the farmhouse. There are around 200 record players from different eras.
