A weekend with children in Mikolajki Poland

A weekend with children in Poland in Mikolajki is our recommendation for everyone who is looking for a fun and nearby weekend trip.

Those of you who follow and read our blog know that Poland is a very favorite destination of Agne’s, one of the founders of “Travel 4 kids”, and her family. Agne with her family and children often go here to have fun and rest, so she can confidently recommend that a weekend with children in Mikolajki Poland will be a great trip for the whole family. We share our recommendations and tips with you!

A weekend with children in Mikolajki Poland – why it is worth going here

Weekend with children in Poland in Mikolajki – why is it worth going here? Mikolajki is a very popular and favorite resort of the Polish themselves. Although it is especially fun here in the summer, you can safely go in the winter as well.

We have been to Mikolajki a few weeks ago and many times before that. We have been there in the fall as well, but the most fun is this summer. Therefore, we can confidently recommend this place, hotels, and entertainment to you, because we have tried and visited everything ourselves.

If you are traveling with small children or a baby like us, we highly recommend visiting here. Not far away, you can go from Lithuania to Mikolajki with one stop.

The town of Mikolajki itself is very small, but there is definitely something to do. A very nice, albeit small town beach. Sandy, extremely shallow shore, perfect for children’s swimming. It has small slides for children (free of charge). Water trampolines are also available during the season.

Along the lake there is a large promenade with many cafes and restaurants. Lots of small shops, shows and music. Boats can be rented too.

A weekend with children in Mikolajki Poland – what to do here

Mikolajki is a small town by the lake, so we recommend that you definitely visit the town’s beach during the season. Here, the shore is wonderfully adapted for children’s swimming – shallow, sandy, with small FREE slides. Water trampolines are also available during the summer.

From the port, there are large boats to other cities, excursion boats. The greatest fun for us is to rent a boat and sail by yourself. These boats do not require the rights of a skipper (the rental price is about 200 zlotys per hour, but everything can be easily negotiated). We highly recommend swimming in the evening when the sun is setting. Very beautiful.

Bike Riding

If you like to ride bikes – there is a very nice bike path from Mikolajki to the town of Stare Sady. You can go for a fun ride and Stare Sady has great cafes on the lake shore.

There is a great promenade along the whole town and the lake shore, it is very fun to walk in the evening.

Hotels and Hotel Areas

For children there is a climbing park Park LINOWY.

In the hotel area of Golebiewski there’s a summer toboggan. We highly recommend it. There are two different prices – one if you are staying at the hotel and one if you are not a hotel guest. If you are a hotel guest, you can pay for the ride at the reception, if you are not a hotel guest, there is a ticket machine near the sled. 10 zlotys for adults, and a 50 percent discount for children up to 8 years old. If you live in a hotel – 6 zlotys, and for children under 8 years old, a 50 percent discount is possible. The minimum amount you have to spend is 30 zlotys plus a 20 zloty deposit per card, which is returned upon surrender of the card.

If you have time, you can drive or take a boat to Gizycko. Read more about this town in our prepared article Holidays in Poland near the lakes.

Where to stay in Mikolajki

There are a lot of good hotels in Mikolajki, as the Polish themselves often choose to vacation here, so you will find inexpensive accommodation in the private sector and hotels where a night costs several hundred euros.

If possible, choose Hotel Gołębiewski w Mikołajkach, which contains a Water Park. The hotel is very large and often sells accommodation and meal packages. When staying at the hotel, visiting the water park is free. Has a wonderful private beach by the lake. It is especially fun to live here during the summer, because the hotel has many outdoor pools, as well as various entertainment for children. Outside there is a fantastic playground for children.

There is also a great 5* hotel called the Mikołajki Leisure & SPA Hotel Mikołajki Leisure & SPA, but the prices are really high. It is located right on the lake shore in the city center, right next to the beach.

We are also recommending you to use the Lawendowe wzgórze villa. It has a wonderful terrace with a great view of the lake. The villa itself is very modern, contemporary. The pedestrian promenade to the city center is only ten minutes away.

A very large supply of accommodation in the private sector. If you are looking for accommodation, we recommend that you search through the reliable booking.com system.

Hotel Robert Port Lake Resort & SPA

We have stayed overnight many times and this time we stayed in the Hotel Roberts Port Lake Resort & Spa, about 6 km from the town of Mikolajki. It has a great private beach for swimming, with free sunbeds, boat rentals, an indoor pool, and concerts in the evenings. You can also order meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner). We choose the option with breakfast, because we like to have dinner in the city.

A very nice swimming pool, especially great with children, because the water is very warm and there is even a small slide for children. Plus, such details as, say, a changing table in the changing room are very important to me – it really shows that the hotel cares about guests with children. Outside there are two playgrounds for children. There are picnic tables on the shore too.

Mikolajki Water Park

Although the water park is old enough and not big, we still enjoy visiting it. The water park is located in the Golebiewski Hotel. The visit is free for hotel guests. Very fun in the summer, there are many outdoor pools, a playground, so you can spend the whole day. Especially in the summer, this water park feels like you are in some Turkish hotel.

There is an outdoor bar, if you are a hotel guest you can order on the room bill, if you are only visiting the water park – you will need to pay by cash or card. The water park provides towels even if you are not a hotel guest, so there is no need to bring your own. A very nice indoor children’s pool with slides and entertainment for smaller children. Visiting the water park takes around 1.5 hours, then you can buy an additional 30 minutes.

Where to eat

The most diverse cafes are located on the promenade along the lake. We really enjoyed Nóż w wodzie. Delicious food, great view.

Right next to the pedestrian bridge is Port Smaku. We liked it too.

The LAB_01 Mazurskie Laboratorium is a little further away, but the food in it is delicious. Very tasty food and perfectly beautiful view. The prices are a bit higher, but the location is amazing.

By the way, keep in mind that in Poland, the dumplings that Matthew likes very much are usually served not with sour cream, but with sauerkraut. So if your children, like our Matthew, like to eat noodles with sour cream, you need to ask for it additionally.

We are traveling in Poland with a baby

We get a lot of questions about how we travel with a baby that we have already started feeding. What do we do when we travel when it’s time for Paula to eat. The answer is very simple. PONN purees always travel with us. We are very happy that after Paula started formula feeding, we made friends with organic PONN purees, which perfectly suited and pleased Paula.

When we cannot offer home-made food, organic PONN purees come to our aid. Matthew grew up with these purees and snacks, and now Paula (Paulė) tastes them too.

Practical advice

If you plan to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel and cook your own meals, there is a large Biedrionka store.

During the season, there are many places to rent bikes.

Parking in the city is paid, so you better look for a place to stay with a parking space.

The road from Elk to the Mikolajki town is currently being repaired, so there are a lot of speed restrictions, so plan for the journey to take longer.

Use the myTU payment card like us to save on travel and holidays in Poland: get the myTU payment card, because:

  • We can withdraw up to 200 EUR free of charge, and withdrawing money in local currency at an ATM is cheaper than exchanging euros at exchange offices.
  • When paying abroad, we always choose to “pay in local currency”. When we are asked whether we want to pay in euros or local currency when withdrawing cash or paying with a payment card – we always choose to pay in local currency to avoid additional currency conversion fees!
  • When paying with myTU card, there are no additional fees for paying in non-euro (as other traditional banks usually do). Standard exchange rates apply to non-euro card payments.
