Trolls near Brussels

An online magazine shares the ideas and tips of Lithuanian children living in Brussels, what to do at home, impressions from trips to Belgium – they’re called Travelers. It is a magazine of knowledge and adventure for creative entertainers.

One sunny morning in October, after a hearty breakfast, we got ready to go for a walk to De Schorre Park near the town of Boom. This park is just half an hour away from Brussels. It is famous for the fact that since 2005, the famous music festival “Tomorrowland” has been held every year, except for this summer due to the rampage of the covid virus. Many years ago, clay was mined and bricks were made in these areas. By the way, on the way to the park, factories were still visible on the roadside with piles of bricks stacked nearby. After excavating the clay, ponds opened up, next to which the park was located. And also there are trolls near Brussels.

What is this place about?

A cozy place with walking paths, ponds, hills, swings – just for us! Danish artist Thomas Dambo has “settled” seven trolls in this natural refuge. He built the huge creatures, which range from 4 to 18 meters in height, from branches, fallen leaves and recycled materials. The trolls really looked huge, majestic and trollish!

By the way, did you know that trolls are Scandinavian giants who live in mountain caves and keep their treasures there. They are often depicted in human form, large, ugly and old. They live alone in mountain caves, in dense forests and do not tolerate sunlight.

Trolls added intrigue to our walk. We kept running, jumping between trees and bushes, because we wouldn’t be us if we didn’t find all seven trolls! As we searched and explored the area, we discovered the barefoot trail. We also tested the braids, the climbing walls, and the toughness of the trolls themselves. And of course we found them all!

We really liked the idea of using fallen trees, branches, and leaves! We thought that there could be more projects like this, reminding us that the waste, the garbage that we throw away, could turn into very beautiful things and live a second life.

Attention Trolls near Brussels!

Wanderers wandered in Belgium and visited more interesting places like the Pairi Daiza Zoo in Belgium, Observation towers in Belgium (and beyond).
