The best baby porridge for travelling

Baby food is certainly not a barrier these days – you can always find baby food in local shops and petrol stations. Almost every shop has purees, porridge, snacks – especially when travelling in Europe. Naturally, parents are always on the lookout for the best for their children. But sometimes it takes a while for parents to discover what the best baby porridge is.

It’s often the case that when travelling, the little one is eager to eat something from mum’s plate. However, babies have a sensitive stomach when they are still very young, so they should choose their food responsibly. Especially if you have a sensitive or allergic baby, then this careful food selection takes even longer.

If you’re travelling by car, we recommend taking a larger quantity of your baby’s favourite porridge with you. This will save you time and free you from having to shop at the store when travelling.

Which baby food should I choose for my trip?

At home, of course, it’s best to cook everything yourself. We cook porridge, carrots, pumpkins, mix all kinds of purees and meats together and taste them. But what if you’re preparing for a trip? Can we trust store-bought food?

In our families’ experience, travelling with feeding babies is not a problem. There are a few things to consider:

Home-made purees

We do not recommend taking home-made purees with you on your trip, as they can spoil more quickly at the wrong temperature and risk food poisoning for your baby.

Purees in pouches

Pouches are the most convenient. They are light, take up little space and do not require a spoon. BUT! Please note that food spoils more quickly in an already opened pouch, so make sure you assess the freshness of the food before giving it to your child.

Eating in a calm environment

It is best to give the food at rest, relaxed, and not in a hurry to drive or walk somewhere. Driving in the car right after a puree or other food is likely to make the child feel nauseous.

Quality ingredients

Choose a reliable store-bought food that has a good composition, is grown on organic farms and does not contain any additives such as preservatives, flavour enhancers or fillers.

Appropriately sized snacks

If you give snacks, it is important that they are comfortable for the baby to take, but not too big, so that the baby doesn’t put too much in his mouth. Make sure that the snacks are light, not crunchy.

Water

Don’t forget to give your baby a drink of water too – especially when travelling, when the air is drier from air conditioning and there is more dust in the air.

Prepare in advance

Take cooked or instant porridge (oats, buckwheat, rice) with you on your trip.If you are staying in an apartment, you can easily cook them. If you are staying in a hotel, ask the staff to make you porridge. When we travelled with our first-born, Motiejus, in Thailand, we carried a lot of oats. In Thailand, they love children so much – we asked and they cooked porridge for us everywhere. In roadside cafes, little restaurants, hotels. We used to make oat porridge with Ponn puree and it made a great breakfast or dinner.

No problems when travelling with Paulė either. While Paulė is still small, she eats the oat porridge. When travelling, all you need to take with you is a thermos of warm water, or you can ask for hot water on the plane, in a café, a small bowl, a spoon, some porridges and PONN purees.

Organic and verified baby food

Although we have tried many different products on the market with our children, in our opinion and in the opinion of little Paulė, 10/10 goes to PONN baby food.

We discovered it when we were raising our first-born Motejus and we were already convinced then that PONN is a natural, high-quality, balanced and really tasty baby food manufacturer. Now Paulė eats PONN purees too.

Although, to be honest, it is far from being only Paulė who likes PONN in our family. Looking back on his childhood, the eldest, Motiejus, also enjoyed the purees and snacks. We are very happy about this, because PONN snacks are better in texture, tastier and replace the less healthy snacks that children usually like (biscuits, cereals).

PONN is an Estonian product from our Baltic neighbours. Developed in collaboration with the most advanced paediatricians in Estonia to ensure that the taste, texture, energy value and portion size are adapted to the specific age of the child.

PONN is the brand name of Salvest, founded in Estonia in 1946. It is one of the largest food manufacturing companies in Estonia.

Why do we like PONN so much?

PONN not just for babies

A year ago PONN introduced a new product in Lithuania – organic corn snacks for children, which were also loved by the eldest Motiejus.

PONN snacks are a three-flavour line with cornflakes in different fruit and vegetable flavours. They are convenient to eat in the car, during a walk in the park or for a nice snack at home.

Little Paulė enjoys tasting them too – the playfully shaped snacks are easy for her to pick up and also develop her motor skills. Recommended for children aged 7-8 months.
