The Riga Zoo

The Riga Zoo garden is located in the greenest district of Riga, Mežaparks.

Over the course of several decades, this collection was significantly expanded, and now you will meet many interesting animals here – lions, giraffes, kangaroos…

It is a great leisure place for adults and children, as it is located by Lake Ķīšezer and surrounded by pine trees.

Riga Zoo is open all year round: it is an ideal place for leisure and picnics in summer, and in winter the zoo doors are opened at a specific time to show certain animals – snowy owls, arctic foxes.

Step inside and right outside the gate you will see the first animals, flamingos standing on one leg and a family of seals on the other side of the road. And where else is the aquarium and its underwater life. You can spend the whole day here!

You can pet some traditional Latvian pets at the children’s zoo, which always has baby lambs, piglets and rabbits.

A large area is occupied by waterfowl and birds of prey. Look for exotic animals at the far end of the zoo – hippos lounging on the terrace, giraffes living in a huge house, kangaroos. Visitors especially like lemurs and curious meerkats.

In the tropical house you can also see reptiles and insects – alligators, crocodiles, marmosets and a great collection of amphibians.
