Weekend with Children in Kaunas

Kaunas is a great city for a day or weekend with children. There are many places of interest for children in Kaunas, there are entertainment spaces, there are many events for families with children. In Kaunas you will also find free entertainment for children.

Weekend with children in Kaunas – our personally tested PLAN for a one-day weekend trip to Kaunas. Jolita from Travel 4 kids traveled to Kaunas with Greta (10 years old) and Oskaras (8 years old). We share with you and invite you with kids to Kaunas.

Weekend with children in Kaunas

We started our day with entertainment – we visited CurioCity and the ZOOPARK in MEGA shopping and leisure center in Kaunas. We finished at the Baltic Circus event. We chose a family and friends restaurant for lunch in Žaliukė with deep cooking traditions and Kaunas famous bread ice cream! So let’s start the day in Kaunas!

CurioCity

CurioCity is the largest children’s educational entertainment center in the Baltic States. It’s a center for quality family leisure time, where not only children will be amazed, but also their parents!

Spaceflight Challenge, Ambulance crew challenges, oObstacle Course Over Burning Volcanic Lava, Rainbow Skating, Burning House Rescue, Detective Situations, Radio Recording Studio. Cooking Classes, Separate Club and Birthday Spaces, Event Amphitheater. Also, many more opportunities to play, experience, find out, feel!

The educational entertainment center, which has no analogues in the Baltic countries, was created for families raising children aged 1-13, as well as groups of schools and kindergartens. The spaces of the educational center, which creates the impression of a multifunctional city, have integrated gaming, educational activities and active entertainment, enabling children to simulate real-life situations, get to know the world, natural phenomena, various professional activities and scientific fields.

Here you can celebrate the most impressive children’s holidays, choose from more than 20 birthday scenarios. Treasure hunt, brainstorming, survival exercises, pottery workshop, experiments, cooking, magic, dancing and much more await you during the celebration.

What do Children Like?

What did Oskaras and Greta like best? Since our children also “treat and operate” on their teddy bears and dolls at home, their attention was primarily drawn to the space for learning about the human body. Well, later the children also “tried” other professions – builders, firefighters, they spent a little longer at the ferry, where they gathered the entire crew and got used to managing the ship in various weather conditions.

More information with the exact coordinates of CurioCity can be found in the “Travel 4 kids ®” map, on the of places of interest in KAUNAS.

ZOOPARK Kaunas

Zoopark is the first contact zoo in Lithuania, which opened its doors on June 22, 2017. Here visitors can get up close and personal with the animals – they can be petted, fed, interacted with and observed.

  • 17 species and more than 100 animals live here, upon arrival you can get to know them up close, pet or feed them.
  • A unique educational project that develops children’s patience, gentleness, care, responsibility, knowledge.
  • The opportunity to get up close and personal with the animal world, caring for and observing the lives of pets.
  • Communicating with animals has therapeutic properties.
  • The animals are cared for daily by professional animal caretakers and veterinarians.
  • The animals are fed according to established rations, with high-quality and balanced feed.

There are Educational programs for schools, kindergartens and camps. Zoopark also offers a unique opportunity to celebrate a birthday surrounded by animals!

What did Oskaras and Greta like best? For our children, the most important and necessary activity in the contact zoo is to feed the animals, so we immediately bought food for guinea pigs, chickens and rabbits at the entrance. Children like the Monkey Park in Tenerife very much, therefore, with the greatest desire, he planned a visit to a smaller, but conceptually similar zoo.

More information with the exact coordinates of the Zoopark can be found in the “Travel 4 kids ®”’s map of places of interest in KAUNAS.

A place for lunch or dinner with children – Zaliuke

Since we planned to go to the Baltic Circus in the evening, to the meat place Zaliuke (lith. Žaliukė), which we heard very good reviews about, became a strategically great place for our lunch. And most importantly, the restaurant welcomes families with children – there is a children’s menu and a children’s playroom.

This is a family and friends restaurant. A restaurant with a history since 1966 and famous for the oldest traditions of cooking shashlik (meat on a skewer) – the recipe for marinating meat is already 50 years old!

Žaliukė has:

  • Cozy interior – calm and warm colors prevail in Žaliukė. The stone decorative walls from 1966 have been preserved, and a fireplace was installed in 2004.
  • 60 seats.
  • Space for the little ones with a heated floor, toys, a children’s kitchen, a separate table for drawing.
  • Personal and collective celebrations are organized.
  • The outdoor terrace is an oasis of greenery. The terrace is also suitable for celebrations.
  • Parking lot for restaurant guests.

Exclusive menu and food:

  • The place is famous for its barbecue traditions – make sure to try it. You get plenty of extras and most importantly vegetables on the side.
  • Children’s menu – cottage cheese, cocktails.
  • Separate menu for vegetarians.
  • Plenty of snacks – make sure to try the fried bread with an exceptional sauce.
  • Soup menu – caramelized garlic soup is especially suitable for the cold season.
  • Lunch.
  • Freshly marinated uncooked shaslik for takeout.

What did we like? Shashlik was delicious non-dry meat, side dish next to it. Fried bread with an unreal delicious sauce. We also really liked the homemade drink gira – not too sweet, fresh. And of course, bread ice cream – we will come back to this place just for it!

Chamber stationary circus and the 1st International Circus and Comedy Festival

On April 19, 2013, the opening of the Chamber Circus took place. On World Circus Day, the first stationary circus building in Lithuania was ceremonially opened.

We were lucky to be able to visit the 1st International Circus and Comedy Festival held in this circus that day. Therefore, when traveling to Kaunas, be sure to check whether there is an event taking place that day.

Chamber circus takes place:

  • Thematic and repertory performances
  • Activities of the Academy of Circus Arts
  • Commemoration of important circus events and dates
  • Educational tours
  • Educational events
  • Social initiatives – charity events, initiatives to improve communication between parents and children in families, etc.
  • Camps for children

In addition to the events taking place in this circus, you can also visit the Museum of Baltic Circus Clowns, which currently has almost 2000 exhibits! These are clowns who came from neighboring and distant countries. Drawn, knitted, sewn from patches of fabric, carved from wood, ceramic, silver, glass clowns – all kinds, big and miniature, very funny and sad, beautiful, witty and playful – are waiting for children to visit… Our accumulated collection surprises even everything seen by circus artists coming to Lithuania on tour.

Anyone interested can visit this exhibition. Groups are also accepted, so you can confidently recommend a visit to your kindergarten group or school class.
