Traditional Craft Lessons for Children in Jonava

Traditional crafts are an integral part of Lithuanian culture, but in order to pass this heritage on to future generations, children need to be introduced to them from a young age. So this time we are visiting Jonava, where we participate in traditional crafts education.

Traditional craft lessons for children in Jonava – we invite you to get to know them. We will go through the sessions of traditional crafts offered by the Jonava Regional Museum, during which children learn to make cozy home decoration elements, toys, exclusive clothes and accessories with ethnic motives, festive attributes.

Tradition of Discounts: Production of „Kermoši“ Sweets

The participants of the activity are introduced to the most famous artists of the 20th century. Indulgences, fun and entertainment are organized on that occasion, the process of preparing white mass caramel is demonstrated, and long-form indulgence candies are made.

Tree Culture: Decorating the “Wolf”.

During the activity, traditional culture is presented as wood culture, more attention is paid to wooden toys, and the value of folk sculpture is highlighted. The participants of the activity decorate a wooden “wolf”.

Linen Road

During the activity, the unique place of flax in traditional culture is highlighted, the community traditions of taluks and palakki parties are introduced, and the old flax processing works are learned: flax carding, threshing, threshing, carding, combing, spinning.

Lithuanian Christmas

During the class, we talk about the time, space, spells, prohibitions and miracles of sacred holidays; molded candle.

Mardi Gras: Traditions and Present-time

During the class, Mardi Gras rites, meals, spells and games are introduced, Mardi Gras masks are made using the papier-mâché technique on wooden bases.

Willows of the Vilnius Region

During the lesson, the aesthetic and ceremonial functions of verbs are highlighted. In Vilnius, verba is presented not only as an attribute of Palm Sunday, but also as a popular souvenir, interior decoration element. The participants of the activity tie a figurative verb.

The Waist of the Bee, the Depth of the Linen

The participants of the activity are introduced to the structure of the bee family, bee products, and various ways of making candles. Candles are cast from natural wax using the old pouring method and with a mold.

Saint John’s Party

The participants of the activity are introduced to the myths, symbols and herbs of the St. John’s Day, the rites of the holiday and their meaning are discussed, the phenomenon of witchcraft is highlighted, St. John’s sutras and circles are learned.

The Felt Phenomenon: Tradition and Innovation

The class introduces the history of felt, traditional felt production technologies in Lithuania, highlights the magical and ritual meaning of felt, and discusses the phenomenon of felt in contemporary Lithuanian culture. During the session, a felt ball is cast.

Between the Nits

The participants of the activity are introduced to traditional textile products, the importance of weaving craft in traditional culture is highlighted. During the class, the ribbon is woven in a threading method.

The Value of Family

During the class, the customs of the human life cycle are introduced: birthdays, weddings, funerals. Ethnographic expedition “Family creation” is presented.

 

Authentic Halloween Traditions

During the session, the material of the ethnographic expedition is presented, the rituals uniting the community are emphasized, and the great attention and respect for the deceased that prevailed in traditional culture is highlighted.

Signs of Ethnic Identity in Everyday Life: Decorating a Linen Bag

The participants of the activity are introduced to flax, wool, hemp, nettle fibers and their use in traditional culture. The linen shopping bag is decorated with fabric pattern motifs from the Jonava region.

Fairies’ Gifts

During the activity, Lithuanian mythological images and characters are introduced, the phenomenon of the “evil eye” is discussed, mythological tales are listened to, the witches’ polka is danced, and the Laumės’ cake is tasted.

Fine Crafts of the Jonava Region

The participants of the activity will get to know the creators of traditional art from the Jonava region and their works, will virtually visit the creative workshops of folk artists, and will look for answers to the interactive tasks presented by them.

Straw Gardens in Traditional and Modern Culture

The educational program is intended for adults. The participants of the activity are introduced to the material of the international garden conference, to the technological process of weaving gardens, archetypes of symbolism; learning how to tie and decorate the garden.

Straw Toys for the Christmas Tree

The participants of the activity are introduced to examples of straw products and weaving technologies. The participants of the rye straw class are taught to string a racket and a straw garland for the Christmas tree.
