Our newest and funnest discovery with our children is Sioux Park in Gran Canaria, a theme park that recreates the cowboy life of the western world. Sioux city park in Gran Canaria is a great idea for half a day with children. Here you will not only take a walk, but you will also watch performances and visit a local restaurant – a saloon, located in the town itself. The park is located in the south of Gran Canaria, near San Bartolome de Tirajana, near San Agustino​​.

We visited with 8-year-old Oskar and 9-year-old Greta. The children really enjoyed the performances. The park is really unique and different. We came to a real desert where a whole city is built with real buildings and houses. Our impression was enhanced by a very hot day and a howling wind. However, it did not provide comfort when walking around the park and watching the performances, so we even plan to return in the cold season.

At Sioux City Park, visitors can experience the day-to-day making of western movies and even become a part of it themselves. A realistic model of the filming location has been created in the park area, which makes you feel like you are in the old town environment on the American prairies.

On the main street you can find a school, a barber shop, a blacksmith shop and a western saloon, with a church and a cemetery in the back. There is also a Mexican village and an Indian reservation nearby. Country music is playing in the saloon, and a fight breaks out when shooting suddenly starts. It invites visitors to experience the feel of the old wild west life.

Visitors to the park can watch a group of thugs attack a bank, as well as a horse show, a cowboy lasso show and sessions with a mystical horse whisperer.

Everything is in Spanish, but the action is easy to follow thanks to the excellent performances and body language of the actors.

Our children were not interested in cowboys and Indians until now, but after visiting the park in Sioux City, they play cowboys at home very often.

On weekends, there is a barbecue buffet, clowns and a foam show. The program may vary according to the season.

In addition, the park also has a cinema and the Lee Van Cleef Museum, a weapons museum and the opportunity to see horses, Canary Island goats, donkeys, chickens and ponies up close. Visitors can also try horseback riding.

Sioux City Park has a restaurant-saloon. There is also a gift shop where you can buy cowboy hats, toy guns and other Western-themed goods.

Practical information and our advice

  • Book tickets in advance. You will save time because there are queues at the cash registers.
  • Prices: adults and children over 13 years old – 24.90 eur, children under 12 years – 15.90 euros, children under 2 years – free.
  • Special discounts for residents – bring proof of this with you.
  • All performances are included in the price. There is also no limit to the time of your stay.
  • We recommend going with older children – children from 5-6 years of age, because there will not be many activities for the younger ones, unless you are traveling for pleasure and your little one will not have to pay for the entrance.
  • Carefully evaluate your child’s sensitivity to sounds, gunshots (shots are fired with powder strips, but the sound is quite loud), noisy environment, because the performances are emotional, full of action.
  • Come as early as possible after the opening of the park – this way you won’t miss the shows, which are taking place several times.
  • Take both water and snacks for the children – they will definitely come in handy during breaks, although ours only remembered about food when they were really hungry.
  • Be sure to have some sun cream and a hat, because you will be spending a lot of time outside.
  • Park your car for free in the park lot.
  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The park is closed on Mondays.
  • The park is located in southern Gran Canaria, near Maspalomas.
