The island of Tenerife is the largest of all the Canary Islands and offers one of the greatest variety of water sports.

Tenerife with children: fun in the water. These include water parks, natural pools and beaches. Jolita, one of the founders of “Traveling with Children ®” has prepared information for you about water activities, natural pools and beaches. Jolita also shares her insights, tips and a list of such places.

TOP5 water parks in Tenerife

Siam Water Park

Description: the largest water park in the Canaries and even in Europe. The park is open air. The park is reminiscent of Thailand – all decorations, plants, names of attractions are carefully considered. The park was opened by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand herself. For several years, this water park has been recognized as the best park in the world on the Tripadvisor website!

Location and Recommendations

Location on the island: south Tenerife, Costa Adeje resort.

Pluses: the park is neat and well-maintained, parents and children over 7 years old who like adrenaline will find a lot of activities in it. More than 20 attractions, several separate areas for the little ones. Children are given free safety vests. Great restaurants to eat – not only fast food, but also buffet-type restaurants, where you can get both stewed, vegetarian and other “normal” food.

Cons: entrance fee – the price is quite high, especially if you want to visit with the whole family. The park is especially busy during the season, and you have to stand in line for the more interesting attractions.

Advices: come to the park when it opens – if you want to take your time to visit all the attractions. Choose the sunniest and warmest day possible. I would advise children to have wetsuits, and if you don’t have them, spare a few euros for their rental. Also, when you spend your time actively, you won’t walk around with a lot of things – take as little as possible, and be sure to lock the ones you have in a secure locker. Bring your own water, fruit and snacks.

Pricing and Tickets

Prices: from 40 eur for adults, from 28 eur for children from 3 to 11 years old, free for children up to 2 years old inclusive.

Tickets: Buy tickets in advance to avoid queues at the ticket office. Siam Park tickets in advance can be found here: Siam Park tickets at the best price. If you plan to visit LORO Park as well – buy a TWIN ticket, it will be cheaper. We will reveal the secret that when buying a TWIN ticket, children under the age of 5 go to both parks for free.

Aqualand water park

Description: Another water park in Tenerife that offers a lot of water fun for children and adults. The park also hosts dolphin shows.

Location on the island: south Tenerife, Costa Adeje resort.

Pluses: dolphin shows are held in the park, which are included in the price of the visit. The price is lower than Siam Park. We really like the children’s play area in this park, where slightly older children can go down the roller coaster independently and safely. The water in the children’s pools was warmer than in Siam Park, maybe because they are quite shallow and warm up on a sunny day.

Cons: the park is older – its infrastructure is also older. Smaller selection of catering establishments – more fast food, food is quite expensive. You have to pay extra for sunbeds.

Advices: Choose as sunny and warm a day as possible. Bring your own water, fruit and snacks. It is more comfortable to walk in the park with water shoes.

Prices: from 28 euros for adults, from 20 euros for children from 5 to 10 years old, from 12.50 euros for children from 3 to 4 years old, free for children up to 2 years old.

Lago Martianez Natural Pool Park

Description: Lago Martianez is an outdoor pool complex located in Puerto de la Cruz. The leisure park, with a total area of approximately 100,000 square meters, is centered around an artificial lake. Lago Martianez, with unparalleled views of the sea and Mount Teide, is a large man-made lake surrounded by emerald pools, gardens, terraces and restaurants. The park was designed in the mid-1970s by the famous local artist César Manrique from Lanzarote, who created the complex using elements of traditional Canarian architecture and local flora. The complex has three pools for children.

Pluses: it’s a great park for a quiet break, perhaps even more suitable with babies. After all, water parks with attractions “require” active recreation and one of the parents still has to stay with smaller children – and there is no need to rush in this one. The price for such a vacation is very attractive. You can buy drinks and snacks in the area.

Cons: may be a bit boring for older children. The northern part of the island can also be a disadvantage for entertainment in the winter season.

Advices: it can be cooler in the winter months due to cooler weather on the north side of the island – so be sure to check the weather.

Location on the island: the northern part of the island, Puerto de la Cruz.

Prices: 5.50 eur for adults, 3 eur for children up to 10 years old.

Natural pools and beaches

Tenerife is full of natural pools, which are enclosed spaces into which the sea water naturally penetrates without any human intervention. Some of them have the entire infrastructure installed – steps, paths, fences, or even formed and arranged swimming pools. I will mention a few of them, but I have no doubt that you will discover more, smaller pools and beaches that you like. My children and I choose places with good infrastructure, safe pools and beaches with lifeguards on duty. Without children, it is probably more fun to visit more remote, wild and natural places, but with children, safety is a priority. There are also very nice beaches on the island that you have to walk to or walk down to – but with children, especially smaller ones, it can be quite difficult.

TOP5 natural pools

Bajamar natural pools

Despite the strength of the waves in the open sea, a visit to the natural pools of Bajamar, located in the northeast of Tenerife, will always be a pleasure. There are two large pools and a smaller one for children. There are ramps and handrails. Shops and restaurants nearby. Bajamar is now recognized as one of the best natural and family-friendly water parks. If you’re visiting on a rough day, get your camera ready – Bajamar Beach is a particular favorite of our family – not only for the swimming but also for the wave ‘therapy’.

Los Gigantes Natural Pool

A rocky natural pool in the southern part of the island, separated from the sea by a concrete barrier, is popular for sunset views. Be extremely careful – it is not safe to swim with children and even adults if there are big waves in the ocean.

TOP4 beaches in the northern part of the island

Benny and Almaciga beaches

Wild black sand beaches located in the village of Benijo, on the north coast of Tenerife, in the district of Anaga. If you see a big swell, be very careful. You have to climb until you reach Beni Beach, however Almaciga Beach very easily accessible by parking on the side of the road.

You can find the coordinates of Almaciga Beach in the “Traveling with children ®” Tenerife attractions map. Coordinates of Benijo Beach can be found here.

El Socorro Beach

One of Tenerife’s Blue Flag beaches, it has all the necessary services, such as showers, observation posts, lifeguards and lifeguards, toilets, restaurants and beach bars, etc. However, it is always recommended to be careful with the ocean and watch the color of the flag flying on the beach. The beach is about 230 meters long and has plenty of parking spaces. Groups of people with surfing lessons can also often be seen at this beach.

Las Terasitas Beach

Golden sand stretches for almost 1.5 kilometers, palm trees, calm water. It is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the north of Tenerife – we obviously disagree, but locals and tourists alike love it for its white (man-made) sandy beach. This beach, located below the mountains of Anaga, near the capital Santa Cruz, in the village of San Andres. Facilities – deckchairs, sun umbrellas, showers, various bars and restaurants.

You will find the exact coordinates of this place can be found in the “Traveling with children ®” Tenerife attractions map.

TOP4 beaches in the southern part of the island

La Tejita Beach

One of the most impressive and beautiful red sand beaches on the island. It is one of the largest beaches in Tenerife, with a coastline of about 1,000 meters. The beach has an area with sunbeds and umbrellas. The beach offers spectacular views of the Montana Roja volcano, which you can climb by a trail if you wish. The beach is usually guarded, but it is always advised to pay attention to the color of the raised flag and to proceed with caution. If you see big waves, be careful. We also note that the beach is located in one of the windiest areas of the island of Tenerife.

You will find the exact coordinates of this place in the “Traveling with children ®” Tenerife attractions map.

El Medano Beach

One of the best known beaches on the island of Tenerife, located in the very town of El Medano, in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, very close to the southern airport. The beach has showers, sunbeds and umbrellas. This is one of Tenerife’s beaches awarded with the blue flag. You can feel the local atmosphere on the beach – there are also restaurants, cafes, and a weekend market. El Duque Beach

The beach is located in the municipality of Adeje, in the south of the island of Tenerife. The El Duque beach is awarded the blue flag and therefore has all the necessary services such as sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, lookout points, lifeguards, toilets, local restaurants, tourist information center. This beach is part of a group of 12 beaches in Tenerife that are wheelchair-accessible, with ramps and paths for babies too. El Duque beach does not have many waves as it is protected by a breakwater, so swimming is quite safe under normal conditions. The downside is that it is always quite crowded.

You will find the exact coordinates of this place in the “Traveling with Children ®” Tenerife attractions map.

Abama Beach

A golden sand beach hidden within the grounds of a luxury hotel. To get to the beach, you have to cross the private grounds of the Ritz Carlton Hotel and go down the hill.

The hotel has an elevator, but non-hotel residents are not always able to use it. The beach is very well maintained, there is a restaurant (admittedly quite expensive), toilets, and a lifeguard at the bottom. The beach is public, like all beaches in Spain.

You can safely enjoy the sun and water activities. By the way, we also managed to meet poisonous blue jellyfish on this beach – but the lifeguards react very quickly and when the guests arrived, they immediately told everyone to leave the water. The only downside to this beach is that the cars have to be parked at the top, so one family member who takes everyone down will have to walk and then climb the hill to open the car.
