These places give you the opportunity to enjoy nature and the activities and facilities it offers. Recreation places in Tenerife – our guide to selected and tested sites for your holidays or picnics with your family.

Tenerife recreation places

In Tenerife, Cabildo de Tenerife manages around 20 recreational sites with all the necessary facilities. Locals use them for weekend getaways with their families and friends, and to celebrate family holidays. Tourists come to relax after a hike in the mountains, to rest with their children after a long car journey, or just to have fun in nature.

Rest areas in Tenerife have barbecue places, tables with benches, water points (usually not suitable for drinking and eating) and sometimes toilets, playgrounds and sports areas. 11 of them have a camping area where you can spend the night. You can spend a maximum of 7 days in the camp, which is free of charge – in some places you need to book in advance.

Tenerife recreation places – basic rules

It is important to respect certain rules, such as respecting nature, not damaging the landscape, respecting litter, fire bans and water conservation, being responsible and respecting other visitors.

  • Pick up your rubbish: keep clean and tidy, separate your rubbish and dispose of it in the containers provided. Carry rubbish bags with you and dispose of all rubbish after the picnic in the bins provided.
  • Careful with fire: only burn fires in designated areas and use wood and charcoal as fuel. If fire hazards prohibit the use of prepared areas, do not use or cook. These rules are particularly strict in summer.
  • Water conservation: save fresh water and avoid polluting water sources. Water is usually unfit for consumption, but it is good for washing hands and dishes.

Our tips and recommendations if you’re going on a picnic

  • Proper clothing and footwear. As the pitches are in the mountains, bring warmer clothes. Make sure you’re comfortable and don’t get dirty – the volcanic deposits in these places quickly settle on shoes and, for children, on clothes. They have so much fun climbing, crashing, building houses out of spikes, branches etc. Also wear comfortable closed shoes.
  • Sun protection. Don’t forget sunscreen, because the sun is hotter in the mountains, even though it looks cooler.
  • Take water and food. Water is not suitable for eating or drinking in these areas. Therefore, have enough water to drink. It’s great fun to picnic in these areas, and if you’re not restricted, you can have a roast, and for the children, potatoes and marshmallows.
  • Activities for children. Bring board games and outdoor games, although it’s really interesting for children to explore the countryside and frolic in the prepared playgrounds. If the resort has a football pitch, bring a ball.
