Ship “Raketa” (Missle)

Drive the formula

Are you a fan of Formula One or just want to feel what it’s like for the drivers during a race? Or maybe you want to drive around the Nemunas Ring in the fastest car carrying a passenger? Then we look forward to seeing you in an adrenaline-packed experience in a two-seater formula car!

This unique car was born as a racing car, won several races and only later was the cockpit modified to accommodate a passenger. The biggest advantages are the lightweight construction (500 kg) and the aerodynamic properties that are unique to formula class racing cars. Although it cannot boast the highest top speed (only 210 km/h) at the Kačerginė Ring of the Nemunas, the suspension and aerodynamics allow it to turn a lap in 1 minute. 15 s.!

Before the formula, you will have a guided tour of the Ring of the Nemunas, getting to know the car and the driver.

The car will be piloted by Rokas Markevičius, a long-time car racer and two-time Lithuanian Vice-Champion.

Those who have tried it say that from that day on, their perception of racing changes. We guarantee that neither adults nor teenagers will be disappointed. And if a child is in the formula, the racer promises to take him or her for a slower, but no less spectacular ride.

Playgrounds in Kaunas

Playground in Sobor Square

Good plastic surface, sometimes it gets windy. There is a restaurant “Piano piano” right next door, where parents can not only sit on the benches nearby, but also have a refreshment while watching the children. A short walk down Laisvės Avenue (fifty big steps according to the children’s playground measurements) is “Casa del Pasta”, a place really suited to pasta lovers.

For more information with the exact coordinates of the playground, see the “Travel 4 kids®” map of KAUNAS attractions.

Peace Park playground

A really big, varied playground (owned by the school next door, so the main gate is sometimes closed, but always open on the school side). Really big with lots of rides, shaded from the sun.

Nemunas Island playground

A brand new playground, with adult sports facilities nearby. In spring it’s also nice to just walk along the Nemunas because of the abundance of flowers/sakuras.

Music Theatre Garden Playground

Currently under renovation, but deeper down there is another small playground, just past the restaurant “Bajorkiemis”. However, it is more oriented towards younger children.

Santaka playground

There is one playground closer to the castle by the Nemunas (covered with pebbles, so more chance of injury, but children also like to move the pebbles) and a new one on the other side of John Paul II Square (closer to the Vytautas Church amphitheatre), which just opened this summer (with trampolines, etc).

For more information with exact coordinates of the playground, see the “Travel 4 kids®” map of KAUNAS attractions.

Santaka playground

Santaka playground

Mega Shopping Centre playground

Playground at Mega Shopping Centre. With soft surface. Children like it as much as the playrooms.

For more information with exact coordinates of the playground, see the KAUNAS Sightseeing Map on “Travel 4 kids®”.

Parks and other interesting places with children

Vienybes (Unity) Square

On hot days, children love to run between the dancing fountains or down the cascading river. Older ones try their hand at scooters/bikes/skateboards – the terrain is specially designed for this (more serious skateboarders usually choose a separate area near the Santaka/Vytautas Church amphitheatre). There are several restaurants and cafés in Vienybės Square.

For more information with the exact coordinates of the Vienybes Square, visit the “Travel 4 kids®” map of KAUNAS attractions.

Unity Square

Unity Square

Santaka Square

Children, apart from the playgrounds, Kaunas Castle, the Vytis Monument, for some reason always stop to look at the robotic lawnmowers, as they are hanging out on those slopes, mowing the lawn, apparently some kind of a hypnotic affair. And for those who have controllable machines/quadricycles (on a slightly more serious level), the ditches of Kaunas Castle serve as a wonderful testing ground for their capabilities (quite a few enthusiasts gather).

For more information with the exact coordinates of Santaka Square, see the “Travel 4 kids®” map of KAUNAS attractions.

What to do with children in Kaunas

What to do with children in Kaunas

Courtyard Gallery

For photos, you can visit the Courtyard Gallery on Ožeškienė Street. A really interesting place for children. Vytenis Jakas, an artist who moved into a house in this courtyard more than a decade ago, noticed that the neighbours were alienated and had forgotten their shared past. When Jakas began to transfer photographs of the Jewish families who had lived there onto the walls, he received a lot of support. Other installations are appearing in the courtyard, new artists are making their mark, the neighbours’ festivals are taking place here, and tourists are visiting regularly.

Zaliakalnis

From the centre (Putvinskio str.) you can take the funicular to the Resurrection Church. A unique experience, as you won’t find it anywhere else (you have to pay, but the price is really symbolic). Be prepared – it crunches when you ride it, it won’t take your breath away from the view, but you can’t say it doesn’t capture the atmosphere of the last century perfectly.

For more information with exact coordinates, visit the “Travel 4 kids®” map of KAUNAS attractions.

Oak Park

The Oak Park is fun to walk around, again with sculptures, playgrounds, etc. Passing through it, you come to the Zoo – the only real zoo in Lithuania, but now closed for reconstruction. When it reopens, I think it will be even better, but even before the reconstruction, it was fun not only to walk around, but also to take part in the lottery. The cages have barcodes which, when scanned, give you an interesting question about a particular animal and, if you get a certain number of correct answers, you can enter a lottery and win a prize. I suspect that there weren’t that many people taking part, so we went as many times as we could and got the prizes almost every time.

Pazaislis

There is a pretty good beach with changing huts on the way up the hill (next to the car park). There is also a playground, the shore is sloping, there is usually no wind, and it is sandy, so it is perfect for children.

Pažaislis itself is spectacular: there are guided tours inside, or you can just walk around, or enter the courtyard by the church (enter through a small door on the left, cross one courtyard, and the door on the left leads to the main square). There is a car park next to the square, which leads to the “Monte Pacis” restaurant.

After driving further along the forest paths (leaving Pažaislis on your right) you arrive at the Yacht Club. There you can take a walk, there are inflatable trampolines and swings for children, you can rent a boat and sail around the Kaunas lagoon, or you can sit down and have a meal while looking at the water or the children running around.

More information with exact coordinates on the “Travel 4 kids®” map of KAUNAS attractions.

The Panemune Forest

We usually park the car in Šančiai near the Panemune Bridge and then go down it on foot or on bicycles/scooters (only the kids need to be slowed down, as the slope is quite steep) and then go along forest paths or along Panemune. There is a children’s playground and a basketball court on the Smetona Avenue side. People swim both at the bridge and at the playground. In winter we go there to see swans.

More information with exact coordinates on the “Travel 4 kids®” map of KAUNAS attractions.

Lampedziai

A great place for bathing. There are two accesses – one from the Raudondvaris highway after turning to the Roundabout on the right hand side. There is a paid entrance, so it is called Lampėdžiai beach. It is well maintained, with changing rooms and toilets. There is a campsite. There is a wake park nearby (for those who like it, there is one in the Academy).

Next is the Old Beach – turn right from Raudondvaris highway onto Kulautuvos street and keep right at the end of the street there. We head towards Uno Park, because I think it has the nicest sand and there is a playground nearby.

More information with exact coordinates on the “Travel 4 kids®” map of KAUNAS attractions.

Aleksotas

Aleksotas has a botanical garden: nice to walk around, a children’s playground with a slide. There is also a panoramic view of the centre of Aleksotas (most beautiful in the evening).

“Radisson hotel Kaunas” – the best place to stay with children in Kaunas

If you decide to stay overnight after your entertainment in Kaunas, we highly recommend Radisson Hotel Kaunas, located in the heart of the city.

After a day activities with your children in Kaunas, you can relax and unwind in the hotel’s spa, or head to the Two Senses restaurant for a seasonal á la carte menu, or simply relax in a comfortable bed.

“Travel 4 Kids” also stayed at this hotel during their visit to Kaunas. We can say that the hotel is simply amazing. Family rooms are very popular abroad, but in Lithuania they are almost non-existent. I do not mean just two rooms connected or rooms with an extra bed. It is a separate room for the children, which is next to the parents’ bedroom. The children’s room has a bunk bed, playful accessories and a child’s bedside potty in the toilet. In addition, the hotel has a Rad Family programme where children are welcomed with gifts, stickers and a colouring book.

We really liked that the hotel has a really good breakfast selection. And not just the usual traditional breakfast, but healthier options too, especially for children. It’s a small thing, but it’s thoughtful. If you don’t have time to enjoy a cup of coffee at breakfast and you’re in a hurry, there are coffee cups for you to take away. Also, for us, it’s very important that the ‘to go’ coffee cups have no added plastic and the lids are made of sugar cane fibre.

We booked through booking.com’s hotel booking system because it was the best price.
