The Illuminating Park of Kakė Makė

In Kaunas, in Ąžuolynas Park, a world of lights lit up among the hundred-year-old oaks on Saturday, where the stories of the books about the five-year-old girl Kakė Makė came to live. As many as 250 lantern-turned scenes from various books attract Kaunas and city guests to the synergy of nature and the world of books. Kakė Makė Illuminating Park invites all families to an unforgettable experience.

Kakė Makė Illuminating Park

in 2023 October 27 Kakės Makės illuminated park has opened in the Ąžuolynas Park. You enter the illuminated park of Kakė Makė through the gates of the five-meter high Dantukės fairy castle. And here, even a kilometer and a half trail awaits you. In it, you can admire bright, luminous sculptures, lasers and interactive entertainment installations while listening to the songs of composer Faustas Venckus.

The organizers of the Festival of Lights and Lanterns believe that fresh air, music and more than 2,500 steps of the illuminated path with family, school, kindergarten or club friends is a great experience in the dark season.

Scenes from books became photogenic installations

Walking one and a half kilometers, park visitors will collect not only 2,500 steps. You will also immerse yourself in the magical scenes of the books, the stories of which will be understood even by those who have not read the books by Kakė Makė. A huge team spent more than nine months creating 250 unique installations and sculptures based on the books of the writer and illustrator Lina Žutautė especially for Ąžuolynas Park.

In the park, you can see the luminous family of Kakė Makė and their pets Čiūčia and Piratas. Also, Messy Dwarf climbing to the moon, Mamaisa and Nanaisa preparing for their dream birthday, Muzzi and Dwarf riding a special moon transport, a big carriage that the little ones can climb into, a witch hiding in a tree and her house decorated with cookies, the Tooth Fairy flying among the stars, princes, dragons, and many more literary characters familiar to children.

The organizers of the festival have no doubt that interactive projects and stories are attractive to modern children. That is why the illuminated park is designed to stimulate not only the sight of the audience, but also the hearing. The special mood in the park is supported by the music track specially created for the event by the composer F. Venckus. “I wanted it to be fun, good and magical for children and adults in the park, so that they would hum recognizable and favorite songs of Kakė Makė while walking and hear something new. We combined the music with light solutions and lantern installations, we aimed to create a magical emotion and atmosphere of the park,” says composer F. Venckus.

Holiday gift for Lithuanian children

The organizers of the Festival of Lights have no doubt that the illuminated Kakė Makė Park will provide a memorable experience and quality family time together before the big holidays of the year. “Every year, before the holidays, we try to surprise the fans of the world of Kakė Makė.” Such are the words of the head of the Kakė Makė brand, Sandra Kalėdinė. “In 2021, we invited you to the world of virtual reality, last year we presented a new performance. And this year we thought about outdoor entertainment. The concept of the festival of lights and lanterns fully met our expectations, and the unique space of Kaunas Ąžuolynas Park adds magic to the festival, which is so lacking in our everyday lives.”

Families with the smallest ones are also invited to a more than hour-long trip through the park of lights. The path is suitable for visitors with strollers, when it snows, it will be possible to come here with sleds. Interactive entertainment will await visitors next to the illuminated sculptures.

The festival of lanterns and lights “Kakė Makė illuminating park” awaits visitors from 2023 October 27, Thursdays – Sundays. During the school holidays (October 30 – November 5), the park will be open daily. You can buy tickets in advance by ordering them online.
