Teror is a town in Gran Canaria, in the northern part of the island, about 20 km from the capital. Teror was once one of the oldest settlements on the island. It is one of the most beautiful towns on the island and on the Must see places in Gran Canaria. Here You’ll find a spring, one of the most beautiful churches on the island. If You’re lucky, the town’s hosts, a rooster and a flock of chickens.

In April 1979, the area around the Basílica a la Virgen del Pino was declared a Historical-Artistic Collection.

La Calle Real is the main avenue that runs from the entrance to the town to Nuestra Señora del Pino Square. Here You will find the Basilica. It is a cobbled street with traditional houses, all of which boast balconies typical of the Canary Islands. It is also a traditional shopping street – some of the town’s oldest shops are still open.

A must visit place is the local perfume shop, Casa del perfume. Here You can not only buy perfume, but also find out how it is made.

La Alameda, next to Calle Real, is another busy area of the city.

You can’t visit the Teror without seeing its Basilica. It stands next to Nuestra Señora del Pino Square.  Basilica history begun in 1767, although it has been restored several times since then (1968 – 1969). On the outside of the Basilica You will see the bell tower, popularly known as ‘La Torre Amarilla’ (The Yellow Tower). It is one of the few architectural elements that remain from the previous houses of worship that preceded this building.

Fuente Agria is one of the most emblematic places in Teror. The spring water has supplied the town with water for centuries. It is one of the town’s main natural assets. Since 1982, a municipal company has supervised the bottling and sale of water from the Teror spring, although many locals still visit the spring with bottles.

Teror Market

Every Sunday from 9am to 3pm, hundreds of locals and tourists flock to the Teror Basilica and its surroundings for the market. The market, which has been going on for more than 200 years, is one of the oldest travelling markets in Gran Canaria.

It is one of the most popular markets on the island, where You can buy clothes, Canarian handicrafts, fresh local produce, typical desserts and even sample typical local dishes.
