Margas Ponis – a place with animals

Do you remember the summers at your grandparents’ house, when you ran around barefoot in the morning dew? That smell of freshly mown fields? In our time, such a vacation has become a rarity. However, there is a place where all rural sensations are reborn.

Margas Ponis – a place with animals. This is the coziest place we know, where you can not only get to know the village animals or organize photo sessions. You can also spend a cool week at a children’s camp!

Margas Ponis – a place with animals

Margas Ponis is an absolutely a special place with animals that we fell in love with at first sight. This is for two reasons. First of all, there is a wonderful environment with lots of animals and a great, interesting, beautifully designed modern village infrastructure. And the second reason is the hosts themselves! They are so sincere and friendly that it seems you have known them all your life. It is immediately clear that people are realizing their dreams here and are happy about it every day, because despite the abundance of hard work on the farm, they keep developing, improving, and coming up with creative and fun innovations.

When you visit Margas Ponis, you will be surprised how much stuff there is. 6 horses, 4 ponies, all kinds of domestic birds, indescribably cute little goats, rabbits. They all have names and they are all part of a big, tight-knit family.

Horses and ponies live freely almost all year round. Communication and movement, says the ever-smiling hostess Apolonia, are important to them. The horses are very calm, the psychological condition is very good because they are happy.

It started with a dream about a black horse

This farm started with a childhood dream, or rather a dream of a black horse. Once, as a child, Apolonija declared: “I will have a black horse!”. Years passed, the girl entered the university, but after only three months of studying, she felt that something was missing in her life. That’s when he bought his first horse Sokas – it was black!

At first, the student housed the horse at a stable in Kaunas, regularly drove to it and took care of it. Finally, the horse drove to the old man’s homestead in Dvariskiai and became the decoration of the homestead. Sokas is thirty years old, he still lives in this homestead, enjoys a happy old age and welcomes guests.

It so happened that a few years later, already married and having children, Apolonija came to follow her black Soka to the same old man’s homestead. At first, the family went to Dvariskiai for the summer, but village life attracted them so much that they stayed here.

The fourth generation farm has been reborn anew

The homestead where Margas Ponis is located has a deep history, which began thanks to Apolonija’s great-grandfather. The construction of the homestead began back in 1929, great-grandparents put a lot of effort and work here. However, history did not spare the family – in 1941, Apolonija’s great-grandfather and his entire family were deported. For such a long time, the homestead had many foreign owners who destroyed and abandoned it. However, with the onset of independence, the grandmother and her sister took back the homestead and gradually revived it with hard, long work. Apolonija emphasizes that she is extremely grateful that she can now nurture, protect and develop what was already created by previous generations.

Settling and Expanding

Having settled here, Apolonija began to expand with her husband and children. The number of animals on the farm increased, and Apolonija realized that in order to be here and maintain the whole farm, she had to find a good solution for earning. And came up with it! Decided to organize cozy holidays and photo sessions at the homestead!

Old farm buildings have been adapted to new purposes – a stylish space for celebrations has been created in the former chicken coop, there is a summer space for birthday parties, and an annex for celebrations under the roof has been installed, so neither rain nor snow will be scary anymore. In winter, by the way, there is a large playroom in the garden, where children can “legally” jump on the hay!

The homestead has become open to everyone who wants to organize a family or group celebration here. Everyone is welcome here:

  • birthday parties
  • in education
  • on excursions
  • in photo sessions
  • on bachelorette parties
  • in individual riding training
  • day camps
  • in weekly summer camps.

In order to come to the Margas Ponis, you need to make an appointment in advance, because visitors are always given an individual time. Homestead guests are introduced to the residents and their unique stories in a fun way.

Nature camp with animals

“Our goal is to replicate, as much as possible, our grandmother’s village, being in nature with friends, among animals. We add new activities and new games every year, but this is not the main goal. It is important to us that children get a safe environment, meaningful time with animals and new friends. If your child is a lover of nature and animals, we will be waiting for you in our camps!” – says Apolonija, the head of Margo Poni camp, with love.

Apolonia is convinced that although the camps compete with each other with new entertainment, she knows from several years of holiday organizing and motherhood experience that children need simple things, a lot of nature, closeness to animals, peace, sincere friendship and coziness. Such are the “Margo Panios” camps.

Several special camps will be held at “Colorful pony” this year: a five-day camp with overnight stay and a two-day camp with overnight stay, and you can also choose just day camps. Children’s age: from 5 to 12 years. Up to 15 children in one group.

Camp shifts

FIVE-DAY CAMP with overnight stay (for children from 7 years old): July 10 – 14, price 300 eur, meals (5 times a day).

TWO-DAY CAMP with overnight stay (for children from 6 years old): July 8 – 9, price 140 eur, meals (5 times a day).

ONE DAY DAY CAMPS (for children from 5 years old): June 21 – 22 and July 5 – 6 (both days the activities will be different, you can choose – let your child stay for one or two days), price 50 eur/day, meals (1 time during the day).

Activities of the “Colorful Pony” camp

COMMUNICATION – this is the main activity that will take place during the entire camp, during all activities there will be a lot of time to listen and get to know the little friends as much as possible. Leaders will encourage children to communicate as a team and support each other. The most shy ones will be given special attention so that in the end the children feel at home. This is the main idea and GOAL of this camp.

ACTIVITIES WITH ANIMALS – you will meet, caress, feed, learn to take care of yourself properly.

ACTIVITIES WITH THE LADIES – you will comb, saddle, ride. Apollonia notes that this is necessary for children to understand – animals need to be properly taken care of first, to create a bond, and riding is only one of the highlights.

EDUCATION – you will learn to saddle and prepare a pony or horse.

CREATIVE WORKSHOPS – you will draw and create with the wonderful village grandmother ELENA.

GAMES – team games, traditional treasure hunt, water and powder war, relay races.

SWIMMING – if the weather is right, you can refresh yourself under the jets on the pitch.

PHOTOSHOOT – the guides will spend time and capture the children with goats and other animals.

DINNER – movie nights, marshmallows on the fire and interesting stories.

HIKING – hikes will take place with or without horses (depending on weather conditions). You will visit the forest and sit by the fire.

Margas Ponis – a place with animals

Apolonija notes that her family pays particular attention to simplicity and coziness.

“Our goal is for you to feel warmth and hospitality when you come to us. Aesthetically, we shape the authenticity of the village, and a village without animals is not a real village. In the morning, the sun is greeted by the greeting of a rooster, when the sun rises, a cat warms up in the clearing, and in the evening, after the swarms of magpies have subsided, the horses come out to the meadows to taste the grass. You have to feel it!” – says the owner, who is always smiling, and she invites everyone to visit this friendly farm by arranging a time in advance.

So if you want your children to spend one of the coolest childhood weeks at this homestead or you just want to visit while passing by – let Apolonija know, book a time and put comfortable shoes in your backpack – there will be no shortage of adventures, discoveries and fun times here!
