Kaunas Zoo Education Center and Exotarium

After more than two years of reconstruction, the Lithuanian Zoo has opened new spaces and introduced new animals. Walking around the outdoor areas of the zoo during the cold season might not be as fun. However, in the renovated zoo, we were fascinated by the Education Center and Exotarium. Here you’ll have a great time, even when it’s freezing outside.

In the Exotarium and Education Center, our kids spent more time than in other exhibits. Here we found not only cozy communal spaces, educational films being shown, but also thematic separate areas with animals. You can enter different climate zones, where you’ll face-to-face with animals – turtles, birds, and reptiles. This area strongly resembles those seen in zoos abroad – it’s great that such modern spaces have been created in the new Lithuanian Zoo.

At the Education Center, the charismatic educators of the Lithuanian Zoo will be waiting for you in the educational classroom. Here, you’ll get to know educational animals, various exhibits, play educational games, and easily and interestingly absorb knowledge about your chosen area. You can also celebrate a birthday here! The Lithuanian Zoo is located at Radvilėnų pl. 21, Kaunas.

Tadas Ivanauskas Museum

The Tadas Ivanauskas Zoological Museum, located in the center of Kaunas at Laisvės al. 106, is one of the oldest and most important natural science museums in Lithuania. This museum is dedicated to the study of animals from Lithuania and around the world. It was founded in 1919 at the initiative of the famous naturalist, zoologist, and professor Tadas Ivanauskas.

The museum exhibits more than 200,000 natural objects – from small insects and mollusks to large mammals and birds. Visitors can view exclusive collections of taxidermied animals, rare specimens of endangered species. The museum also introduces visitors to the lifestyles of various animals, their habitats, and the peculiarities of their adaptation to the environment.

It is a great place for education, especially for children and teenagers who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the diversity of nature. In addition to the exhibits, the museum organizes themed exhibitions, educational activities, and lectures.

Jungle Monkeys Adventure Golf

Finally – the first indoor mini golf in Lithuania, perfectly suited for the whole family! Plus, this mini golf comes with a very cool café. This place is undoubtedly a “must” visit and a fun spot in Kaunas, family-friendly for those with children!

Jungle Monkeyz Adventure Golf consists of two parts: a very nice café and two mini golf courses, each with 9 holes. A total of 18 holes. Both the café and the mini golf courses are set in a jungle-themed environment. We’d give the décor a solid 11 out of 10, as the surroundings and sounds truly take your breath away. The golf courses themselves are designed very interestingly, with no repeating paths. The courses feature many fun obstacles, so the game is not only enjoyable but also makes you want to play again.

You can visit Jungle Monkeyz Adventure Golf at the MEGA shopping center, Islandijos pl. 32, Kaunas.

Lithuanian Aviation Museum

The Lithuanian Aviation Museum (LAM) is an institution under the Ministry of Culture. It collects, preserves, researches, conserves, restores, and promotes the history of aviation and firefighting rescue service equipment.

The museum was established on February 19, 1990, and is located in Kaunas, in Aleksotas, on the territory of the S. Darius and S. Girėnas airfield.

The museum’s collection holds over 20,000 exhibits (including more than 40 flying machines), and the exhibition area spans 4,700 square meters. Large aircraft and firefighting rescue service equipment are displayed on an open 2-hectare outdoor area. The specialized museum library contains around 19,000 publications.

The most popular exhibit is the flying replica of the legendary “Lituanica,” built and constructed in 1982 by the famous aviator Vladas Kensgaila for the film “Flight Across the Atlantic.” The pride of the museum is the Lithuanian gliders and those used in Lithuania, particularly the collection of gliders by Bronius Oškinis.

Science Island

In 2024, a completely new and interactive space opened in Kaunas – Science Island.

Here, there is a 27-meter diameter, 250-ton disc structure, which hangs from just one beam, a permanent exhibition with 140 objects, and one of the most modern planetariums in the Baltic states.

Anyone who wants to fall in love with science or rediscover it, who is not indifferent to learning, discoveries, and entertainment – hurry to Science Island. The space is designed not only for older visitors but also for the youngest ones. Children from 3 to 6 years old, who cannot yet read or write, will experience science through games, colors, sounds, and shapes.

The museum director highlighted 3 levels of the exhibition – from searching for answers, the intersection of technologies and various branches of science, to moral questions and decisions that shape our environment.

The new museum is conveniently located near the Žalgiris Arena at Karaliaus Mindaugas pr. 50.

Museum of Devils

The only Devil’s Museum in the world holds over 3,000 devil figurines. These include works of visual and applied art, souvenirs, and masks from Lithuania and 70 other countries worldwide.

As the collection grew, starting from 1906, it was moved to a separate annex and named the Devil’s Museum. The devils are depicted in various ways, most of them made from wood, stone, and ceramics, while images are painted on silk and canvas.

This museum is worth visiting not only for children but also for adults. You can find the Devil’s Museum at V. Putvinskis g. 64, Kaunas.

Kaunas City Folk Music Museum Department
