Gran Canaria with children – for our family it is one of the most beautiful Canary Islands. Of course, there is nothing more beautiful than Tenerife… It is the third largest Canary Island, which can offer you white sand beaches, amusement parks, wonderful panoramas in the mountains and the wonderful Spanish old town of the capital.

Amusement parks and entertainment with children

Poema del Mar Aquarium

It is said to be one of the most impressive aquariums in Europe. Poema del Mar Aquarium, located next to the cruise port and just a short walk from Las Canteras town beach, is divided into three different areas: shallow marine ecosystems, deep marine ecosystems and freshwater species. Poema del Mar also boasts the largest curved aquarium ever built, the tunnel, which weighs more than 140 tons, is 36 meters long and 7 meters high.

Our assessment is a beautiful and impressive space, but we found it expensive, because unlike the other parks of this group of companies (Loro and Siam in Tenerife), you don’t spend the whole day here, because there is no need for it.

Prices: free for children up to 3 years old, children 4-11 years old – 17.50 eur, adults (from 12 years old) – 25 eur.

Buy a ticket comfortably, safely and in advance.

Therefore, visiting this park helps to sustain the shelter and keep these animals.
Our impressions are a small cozy park, we spent a couple of hours visiting, which was enough to see not only the animals, but also their feeding.

Prices:for children from 3 years old – 6.90 euros, for adults (from 12 years old) – 9.90 euros.

Recommendations for accommodation

It is said that the warmest campus is the Puerto Rico campus. It has a small shell-shaped beach. A very pleasant sandy area, surrounded by breakwaters. One of the best beaches on the island if you are traveling with the family. Puerto Rico was one of the first artificial beaches in Gran Canaria.

We have lived several times in apartments in different places. And the last time we stayed at the Monte Feliz Hotel. It’s definitely not a place I would go back to again and again, but I can’t ignore the fact that the kids loved it. The hotel is near the resort of Maspalomas, several restaurants are within walking distance (useful, because the hotel only serves fast food), the price was extremely friendly during our period (60 eur/night for a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchenette and a balcony). The hotel is not new, the Spaniards themselves liked it. For children there is a swimming pool, several playgrounds in the area.

Recommendations for Spanish food places

As you know, we are fans of guachinche-type restaurants and we found some in Gran Canaria.

We recommend:

  • La Vaqueria. Exclusive interior guachinche. Canarian products are also available locally.
  • La Cuchara Sabor Canario. You will be able not only to eat deliciously, but also to see a lot of different animals. By the way, this place is on the way to Crocodile Park.
