“Travel 4 kids” recommends the most interesting and fun places to visit with kids, where you can spend time for free. These include the most enjoyable playgrounds, walking areas, and city beaches. There are also public spaces that children will definitely love.
“Travel 4 kids®” has prepared a detailed guide called “Free entertainment for children in Kaunas” Attention – all activities are completely FREE!
Free activities for children in Kaunas – playgrounds
Soboras Square playground
It has a good plastic surface, though it can sometimes be windy. Right nearby is the restaurant “Piano Piano,” where parents can not only sit on the benches but also grab a refreshment while keeping an eye on their kids. A short walk down Laisvės Avenue (about fifty big steps by children’s measurements) leads to “Casa del Pasta,” perfect for pasta lovers.
More information with the exact playground coordinates can be found on the “Travel 4 kdis®” KAUNAS attractions map.
Peace Park playground
A truly large and diverse playground (it belongs to the nearby school, so the main gates are sometimes closed, but they are always open from the school side). It’s a spacious area with many attractions, and it’s shaded from the sun.
Nemunas Island playground
A newly built playground, with a fitness area for adults nearby. Spring is beautiful here, and it’s perfect for a walk by the Nemunas River, especially because of the abundance of flowers and cherry blossoms.
Musical Theatre Garden playground
Currently being renovated, but further in, there is another small playground, tucked behind the “Bajorkiemis” restaurant. This one is more suited for younger children.
Santaka Playground
One playground is located closer to the castle by the Nemunas River (covered with small stones, so there’s a higher risk of injury, but children enjoy arranging the stones). Another new playground is on the other side of Pope John Paul II Square (near the Vytautas Church amphitheater) and was just opened this summer, featuring trampolines and more.
More information with the exact playground coordinates can be found on the “Travel 4 kids®” KAUNAS attractions map.
Mega Shopping Center Playground
A playground near the Mega shopping center, featuring a soft surface. Children enjoy it just as much as they would a playroom.
More information with the exact playground coordinates can be found on the “Travel 4 kids®” KAUNAS attractions map.
Free entertainment for children in Kaunas
Unity Square
On hot days, children love to run between the dancing fountains or slide down the cascading stream. Older kids test their skills with scooters, bikes, or skateboards – the terrain is specially designed for these activities (serious skateboard enthusiasts usually choose a separate area near Santaka/Vytautas Church amphitheater). Unity Square also has several restaurants and cafes.
More information with the exact coordinates of Unity Square can be found on the “Travel 4 kids®” KAUNAS attractions map.
Santaka Square
In addition to the playgrounds, Kaunas Castle, and the Vytautas the Great monument, children often stop to watch the robotic lawnmowers as they climb up and down the slopes while mowing the grass – it seems to have some hypnotizing effect. For those with remote-controlled cars or quad bikes (a bit more advanced), the Kaunas Castle moat provides a perfect track to test their capabilities, with many enthusiasts gathering there.
More information with the exact coordinates of Santaka Square can be found on the “Travel 4 kids®” KAUNAS attractions map.
Courtyard Gallery
For photographs, you can visit the Courtyard Gallery on Ozeskiene Street. It’s definitely an interesting place for children. Over a decade ago, artist Vytenis Jakas moved into a house in this courtyard and noticed that the neighbors had become distant and forgotten the shared history of the yard. By transferring photos of Jewish families who once lived there onto the walls, Jakas received strong support. One by one, new artworks appear in the yard, and new artists leave their mark. The courtyard hosts neighborhood festivals, and tourists regularly stop by.
Zaliakalnis
From the city center (Putvinskis Street) to the Church of the Resurrection, you can take the funicular. It’s a unique experience, as you won’t find anything like it elsewhere (it’s paid, but the price is definitely symbolic). Be prepared – it creaks and rattles during the ride, the view won’t take your breath away, but you can’t deny that it perfectly captures the atmosphere of the past century.

Azuolynas Park
Azuolynas park is a great place for walks, with sculptures, children’s playgrounds, and other attractions. Walking through the park, you will also reach the Zoo – the only true one in Lithuania, although it is currently closed for reconstruction. When it reopens, it is expected to be even better, but even before the renovation, it was enjoyable not only to walk through it but also to participate in a lottery. There are barcodes by the animal enclosures that, when scanned, provide a question about a specific animal. By answering a certain number of questions correctly, you participate in a lottery and can win a prize. We suspect that there weren’t many participants, so we managed to win prizes every time we visited.
Pazaislis
Climbing up the hill (next to the parking lot), there is a quite nice beach with changing booths. There is also a playground, the shoreline is gentle, there is usually no wind, and the sand makes it perfect for children.
Pazaislis itself is impressive: there are tours inside, or you can simply walk around or enter the courtyard by the church (the entrance is through small doors on the left side, passing through one courtyard, and the doors on the left lead to the main square). There is a parking lot nearby, from which you can enter the “Monte Pacis” restaurant.
Further along the forest roads (keeping Pazaislis to the right), you will reach the Yacht Club. There you can walk, kids can enjoy inflatable trampolines and swings, you can rent a boat and sail on the Kaunas Lagoon, or just sit and have a meal while watching the water or the children playing.

Panemunės Šilas
Most often, we park the car in Šančiai near the Panemunė Bridge and then walk down or travel by bike/scooter (just be sure to slow down the kids, as the slope is quite steep), then we ride on forest paths or along the Panemune River. On the Smetonos Alley side, there is a children’s playground and a place to play basketball. People swim both near the bridge and by the playground. During the winter, we go there to watch the swans.

Lampedziai
A great place for swimming. There are two access points – one from Raudondvario Avenue, turning onto the Bypass on the right. There is a paid entrance called Lampedziai Beach. It’s well-maintained, with changing cabins and toilets. There is a campsite. Nearby, there is a wake park (there’s also one in Akademija for enthusiasts).
The other, Old Beach – from Raudondvario Avenue, turn onto Kulautuva Street, and at the end of the street, keep to the right. We head towards Uno Park, as in my opinion, it has the nicest sand, and there is a playground nearby.

Aleksotas
In Aleksotas, there is a botanical garden: it’s beautiful for a walk, and there is a children’s playground with a slide. There is also the Aleksotas panorama, which offers the best view of the city center, especially in the evening.
