Exploring Dominica with Children

Dominica is a great travel destination with children! It is an exotic country, but at the same time it is a country that is perfect for traveling with children.

A trip to Dominica with children will suit those who are looking for beautiful beaches and beautiful nature. What to do, what to see, what to visit. Milda, who is on vacation here with her children, shares her recommendations and advice with “Traveling with Children ®”.

Dominica is the Destination of Eternal Summer

From the Dominican Republic, Christopher Columbus began his conquest of the New World. As a result, history buffs will find a wonderful cultural legacy of colonization on the island. The capital of Dominica, Domingos, is especially fascinating to travelers.

However, travelers are most fascinated by the beautiful beaches and tropical nature. Divers are captivated by impressive coral reefs.

The whole of Dominica is filled with the spirit of Latin America. It creates a unique impression.

When is the Best Time to Go To Dominica?

The most popular and most touristic season is November, December and January. However, Dominica is considered the land of eternal summer, so you can vacation here all year round. However, like all countries with a tropical climate, Dominica has two seasons:

  • Dry season (November-April);
  • Wet season (May-October).

Punta Cana is the Most Popular Resort

This is the eastern part of Dominica with perhaps the best beaches of the Caribbean, palm trees and the Pacific Ocean. Milda vacationed here with her family. She praises this resort for its amazingly beautiful beaches. Hotels are perfectly suited for recreation with children – they have water attractions nearby too.

Also, according to Milda, Dominika is perfectly focused on recreation for young people, families. Also older Americans, of whom there are really many here. And it is ideal for newlyweds.

In the Punta Cana region, you will find hotels of the largest and most popular global chains. They offer a comfortable all-inclusive vacation.

The Most Popular Tours in Dominica

Monkey Land – this is a reserve of squirrel monkeys. The reserve is surrounded by cocoa/coffee/vanilla/cinnamon plantations in the mountains. In the reserve itself, the keepers provide food and you can feed the monkeys. You can purchase a tour to the reserve in advance.

Catalina Island. An island of amazing beauty that is worth visiting. We recommend choosing a tour with meals in Punta Cana.

Sanoa Island. One of the most popular tours on vacation in Dominica. Prices range from 70 euros, depending on the vehicle chosen. We recommend choosing from several options: with lunch and turtle watching, or day excursion.

Ocean World Adventure Park. This is a great place with children. Lots of shows – dolphins, birds, coral reef! We recommend buying tickets in advance.

Swimming with dolphins. One of the most popular pastimes not only in Dominica, but all over the world. You can get a swim with the dolphins at a great price.

Practical Advice

  • The local currency is the peso, but almost everywhere you can pay in US dollars.
  • If you are traveling independently and renting an apartment, find out if you will have access to the beach. Often the big hotels have fenced off beaches and you will have to pay to access them.
  • Dominica is not a cheap vacation destination. Therefore, be prepared to pay ~100 euros per person for excursions.
  • Charger adapters are required – the adapters are the same as when traveling to the US.
  • The flight from Vilnius (direct) or Warsaw takes about 10 hours, so prepare for your trip properly!
