Around the world with a child

A trip around the world with a child is exactly what Aiste, Aurimas and Azuolas – the Triple AZ family – went on. Exactly one year ago, the family packed up and set off for a trip around the world with their child. We’ve already shared their travels with you several times.

Around the world with a child – today we would like to share the itinerary of this amazing family’s year-long journey.

Around the world with a child (How the idea was born)

Aiste tells us – “Today is exactly one year that we have been wandering around the wide world (although there was a few month’s break in Lithuania)”. Long story short: we thought we could use our parental leave to travel and spend quality time with our little one. So we moved out of our rented accommodation, spread all our belongings around our parents’ house and set off in search of adventure. Our puppy has been really lucky to have had so much fun all these years, not only with his mum but also with his dad, day in and day out, not just in the evenings after work. That’s how the idea of this wonderful family trip around the world with a child was born.

8 stop journey itinerary

First stop – Thailand

The first stop on our round-the-world trip was Thailand. Aiste and her family landed in Phuket on 1 February last year. During this month, the family visited Khao Sok National Park, moved to the islands of Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, Koh Tao and explored the exotic city of Bangkok. Aiste says that her few months in Thailand have been filled with warmth, low food and service prices, incredibly tasty food, fresh fruit and unforgettable experiences in the night jungle. From Bangkok, the family traveled to Manila, Philippines.

Second stop, the Philippines

The second stop on the round-the-world trip with the baby was a good time for the family. They visited the islands of Palawan, El Nido, Coron, Bohol, Siquior and Cebu. Aiste tells us that the Philippines hardened the family with its chaos, mini typhoons, cockroaches crawling on the body, the isolation of Covid’s illness, and the cancellation of other travel plans (we had planned to go to South Korea, Japan). In the Philippines, we experienced many contrasts. Despite all the inconveniences, we also had the opportunity to enjoy the extraordinarily beautiful nature, sunsets, waterfalls, the colourful underwater world. From the Philippines, the family ‘ran’ to Singapore.

Third stop – Singapore

Singapore is the third stop on their round-the-world trip with the baby. “Singapore was one of the countries at the time that did not require RT-PCR tests for vaccinated people, so we went there because we had problems with positive tests,” says Aiste with a smile. During our week in Singapore, we certainly saw a lot: Sentosa Island, Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay, China town, Little India, Kampong glam, Mount Faber Park. From Singapore, the family went to Langawi, Malaysia.

Fourth stop – Malaysia

Aiste remembers Malaysia with a smile on her face. “It was a good rehabilitation for us after the covid and all the adventures we had in the Philippines. After resting on the island, we headed to Kuala Lumpur, Melaka. From Kuala Lumpur, we went back to Singapore and headed to the other continent – America.” – Aiste shares.

Fifth stop – the United States of America

Aiste is happy that she managed to save one day on the journey from Singapore to the USA. “We took off from Singapore at 9am and landed in San Francisco at 8:50am the same day,” laughs Aiste.

The family visited San Francisco, Sequoia National Park, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Glen Canyon, Mammoth Lakes, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Cannon Beach, Portland, Seattle, New York, the most famous national parks and the greatest cities in America, in 49 days. “We never imagined we would ever see bears in the wild, herds of bison or sea lions lounging on the shore. But we did, and the images will live long in our memories,” says the family. From New York, the family traveled to Istanbul, Turkey.

Sixth stop – Turkey

After exploring the colourful city of Istanbul, the family went to visit friends in Iskenderun. After exploring the town of Arsuz together, they organised a fun trip to Mersin. And we escaped the sweltering heat for a few days to another magical place – Cappadocia. Here, the rocks resemble dwarf caps or morengs of different colours. Even more magic is created by the hundreds of balloons taking to the air at 5am.

Next stop – Lithuania

From Turkey, the family returned to Lithuania, where we celebrated the baptism of our litle Ąžuolas, enjoyed the autumn weather in Lithuania and packed up the car for a trip to Europe. With stops in Warsaw, Vienna and Zagreb, the family reached Split in Koratia.

Seventh stop – Croatia

We spent a whole month in Split, visiting the surrounding towns of Makarska, Omis, Trogir, Primosten. We spent one weekend in Dubrovnik, visiting Krka national park. “We are happy with our decision because we really loved Croatia. All the towns by the sea are more charming than the others. The mountains and islands on the horizon are enchanting, and you catch yourself wandering around their peaks”, says the family. From Croatia, we stopped in Milan before heading to Chamonix in the French Alps.

Eighth stop – France and Switzerland

“For a whole month, we were delighted to see the highest mountains, the top of Mont Blanc, from our kitchen window. We took the red train to the glacier and climbed to the 2,525 m high Brevent peak. A new experience – skiing seems to have ” stuck”. Because it was not only the mountains that captivated us, but also the sport”, recalls a round-the-world traveler with her child.

The family visited the most beautiful towns in the Savoie region – Chamonix, Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains, Megeve.

We welcomed the New Year in Bern, Switzerland. We visited the Swiss cities and towns of Geneve, Bern, Lauterbrunnen, Kandersteg and spent time at the mirror kingdom of nature – Lake Oeschinesee. From Switzerland, the family returned to France and headed for Normandy – the Cote d’albatre coast. “The spectacular cliffs, the power of the ocean and the enchanting views that we still admire today”, says Aiste. On the way to Normandy, the family spent a few days in Paris and Dijon.

“It’s still hard to believe that we have seen and experienced so much in one year. We are so grateful to LIFE for these experiences and the opportunity to travel together. It just confirms once again that when you have a child, you don’t have to forget about traveling, but you have to dive into it” – says Aiste happily.
