Banana Plantation Finca Las Margaritas

Have you ever wondered about Tenerife’s plantation greenhouses, which You, we are sure, saw all over the island. Most of them grow bananas!

We recommend You visit one of these plantations – it’s a very interesting tour, especially if You want to know more about banana growing.

Tenerife Banana plantation tour & tasting takes place at Finca Las Margaritas in the Las Galletas town, which is among the largest banana plantations in Tenerife. Finca Las Margaritas started growing bananas in 1977.

The plantation covers an area of around 8 hectares and there grow 98% banana and 2% fruit trees such as mangoes, papayas and avocados.

What we have learned about bananas

Bananas that grow in the Canary Islands are better known as platanos. This is what the locals call them, and it is also the name used in the market.

The Canary Islands’ bananas are ripened without any chemicals or gases, making them extremely natural and delicious.

Did you know that platanos are grass? Find out that and more when You visit the plantation.

Tips for You

Make sure You book and buy your tickets well in advance in high season (at least few days in advance, and a week in advance if you want to visit on a Saturday), especially if you are planning a guided tour.

There is free parking at the plantation – watch out for signs. Do not leave personal belongings in the car – the car park is not guarded.

Pay attention to the warning signs and do not deviate from the route. If You have booked a guided tour, look out for the meeting point sign.

Suitable for people with reduced mobility and wheelchairs. The plantation has benches for relaxation. Toilets are available.

There is also a souvenir shop.
