If you think you don’t need to use sun cosmetics in winter, remember that white snow reflects up to 80% of UV rays and is almost as dangerous to burn as direct sunlight.

So remember, if you’re going on a skiing trip, on a seaside holiday, or on a short city break – no matter when or where – carry sunscreen with you. This is the only way to effectively protect yourself and your children from the sun’s harmful rays.

Why and how you should use sun cosmetics and additional measures to protect against sun exposure

• Try not to spend a lot of time in the sun. Especially avoid being in the sun between 12pm and 4pm;
• Use a head covering to protect the baby or child and yourself. And for children it should cover the neck area;
• It is recommended that children also wear protective clothing (t-shirts and longer shorts), which can be plain fabric clothing or preferably special clothing (synthetic fabric) which is thin, so that the body does not heat up, and dries very quickly after swimming, so that the child does not have to be undressed and will be protected both in the water and on dry land from the sun’s direct and reflected sun rays;
• For babies and young children (up to 24 months), particularly avoid exposure to direct sunlight, as their skin is delicate and sensitive;
• Before taking children outdoors in the warm season, apply sun protection lotion to exposed areas of the body. In winter, apply sunscreen to the face. Always choose only quality sun care products. For the protection of babies, choose only products specially designed for them.

How to choose the best quality sun care products?

Sunscreens are nowadays available in a wide range of products. Both in the supermarket and in the pharmacy, and many people buy them online. The choice is complicated by the wide variety of manufacturers, the types of products (spreads and sprays, lotions and oils), the chemical composition of the products and the range of filters.

Experts unanimously agree that babies and children should only choose products with the highest protection (50+ SPF). Because their skin is thinner, lighter and extremely sensitive. The type of product you choose (application, spray, oil or lotion) depends on your expectations and comfort, but should not affect the quality of protection. However, it is recommended that children choose a waterproof product, as even if the child does not get into the water, he/she may sweat and the protection may be reduced in places.
