Aleksotas Observation deck

You can either walk up to the viewing platform or be lifted by a funicular railway that has been in operation since 1935. From here, you will see not only the “longest” bridge in the world, but also the smiling solar clock on the wall of the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius University. Aleksotas Observation deck – a place from which you can see the panorama of the Nemunas River and the rooftops, heights, and terraces of Kaunas Old Town. The recently renovated platform has been repaved and new sturdy glass railings have been added. One of the platforms has a rooftop that allows you to enjoy the panorama of Aleksotas in comfort, even when it is raining.

Mergakalnis lookout spot

Mergakalnio lookout spot is the highest wiewpoint near Kauno marios (42 m high). It offers a wide view. The island of Birds is visible. There is a car park, a campfire area and a gazebo next to the viewpoint.

Rokų (Jiesia) lookout spot

The Rokų wiewpoint is located on the right bank of the Jiesios Landscape Reserve (near Rokai). It is the starting point of the 3 km long nature trail of the Jiesios Nature Reserve.

Žinėnai (Andruškoniai) lookout spot

The impressive size and beauty of the mound, which is decorated with the Andruškonių observation deck and old oak trees dating back several hundred years, is one of the most beautiful objects in Kaunas County. Part of the mound has already been washed away by the River Neris, and erosion is continuing apace along the entire length of the mound, forming the impressive Andruškoniai lookout spot, which overlooks the Neris valley and islands.

Drąseikiai lookout spot

The Drąseikiai lookout spot offers a beautiful bend in the Neris. Here you can see the steep slopes of the lookout spot and the settlement of Krėslynai on the other side. The lookout spot extends along the right bank of the Neris for more than 200 metres. The highest part of the lookout spot reaches 30.2 metres.

Žiegždriai lookout point

The Žiegždriai lookout point is a spectacular ornamentation of rock and sediment layers of different colours and textures. As far as the eye can see, the Žiegždriai area is surrounded by forests and meadows. They were once flooded by water. Glacial lagoons of impressive size were formed here when the ice receded. The Žiegždriai lookout point extends for about 400 metres. It is 22 metres high. Nearby you can visit another lookout point, the Kalniškės conglamerate.

The Kalniškės conglomerate, also known as the dessert of the Žiegždriai geological trail. It is a geological formation of impressive shapes – the only place in Lithuania where stalactites are formed.

The lookout point is located in Kaišiadorys district, in Rumšiškės forest, on the right bank of Kauno marios. The lookout point extends along the right bank of the Kauno marios for about 600 m with an almost steep wall up to 20 m high.

Birštonas observation tower

It is the highest observation tower in Lithuania, built on the Škėvonys Ridge. The tower’s observation deck is 45 m high, and the total height of the tower is 55 m. There are six resting places on the way up the tower, as it is difficult to climb up to such a height without resting. The Nemunas River flows 240 metres away, there is an open field in the south-eastern part of the tower, a forest nearby, and the panorama of Birštonas and the Nemunas valley is visible. In front of the tower, there is a rest area and a stand where you can see the landscape of the Nemunas Loops Regional Park.

Rumšiškės Lookout Tower

From the Rumšiškės observation tower, you can see the Kauno marios Landscape Reserve, the vastness of the Kauno marios, birds flying by and the Bird Islands (ornithological reserve). The tower is 15 metres high and is located in the Lithuanian Folk Life Museum, and can be accessed with a ticket from the Rumšiškės Folk Life Museum. The ticket price is €10 for adults and children. Preschool children can visit the museum for free.

Pakalniškių mound viewpoint

This is an observation deck located on a 27 m high hill, from the top of which you can see the panorama of Kauno marios and Pažaislis, as well as Kaunas district Petrašiūnai. After visiting the mound, you can walk along the 3 km long Pakalniškės Ecological Nature Trail.

The Bakainiai Castle Mound complex – a castle hill with two buttresses and protective ramparts – is one of the largest castle mounds in the Kaunas district, offering excellent views of nature. It is surrounded by the Liaudė River on three sides. It is perfectly adapted for visitors: there is a parking lot, steps, outdoor furniture. A newly installed glass stand takes you back centuries to a vanished world. It shows what the fortifications of the hillfort might have looked like. Just find the right viewing angle to get the right view.

Christ’s Resurrection Basilica observation deck (paid)

This is the largest basilica in the Baltic States. The rooftop observation deck offers a panoramic view of the city from above. From the New Town, the site can be reached by a funicular railway, a rare means of transport in Europe, built in 1931. There is a charge for this observation deck. Adults: €5, pupils, students, seniors: €3. Climbing the stairs: €3 for adults, €1 for pupils, students and seniors.
