South Tenerife hotels for families with children

Hard Rock Hotel

Location: Playa Paraiso, South Tenerife

Stars: 5*

Booking.com rating: 8.7

Travel 4 kids rating: 9.5

Family rooms: available.

Baby equipment (high chairs, cots): available.

Hotel & Rooms: we got upgraded room that was two levels more luxurious than the one we booked, so we got more than we expected.

The room had coffee/tea making facilities, everything from an iron to… A large balcony with a great view, a Jacuzzi bath in bedroom. Hygiene products.

Kids’ room/club: available, for different age groups. You can leave the little ones to be looked after, there’s supervision and entertainment for the older ones. There’s a separate teenage area (from 10 years) with video games. Greta and Oskaras tried the evening cinema. There is a spacious playground.

Swimming pools: 4 pools. All are heated. There are 3 pools for children according to their age. There is also a separate pool for adults only.

Activities: sports, yoga, water exercises.

Entertainment: a variety of quality performances during the day and evening; separate sports bar; music nights.

Restaurant: buffet type and 3 separate restaurants for themed dinners; several cafés, bars open all day by the pools and in the hotel. Our family enjoyed the food, there is enough variety here and it is really tasty and of good quality. Breakfast is varied and not in short supply and the staff are very helpful.

AI (all-inclusive): available. We had package with dinner and breakfast.

Service: from the reception to the restaurant staff, everyone was very helpful, friendly and spoke English.

Cons: We are objective, so even if there were not many cons, one of the cons is the price, although we didn’t feel we overpaid after our stay because it was worth it. If you arrive a bit later at the pools you have to turn your head, because there are no sunbeds available even in the off-season. After paying a relatively good price, it’s strange that the car “accommodation” costs an extra 12 EUR/night.

Where to book: we booked the hotel well in advance because the hotel is popular for its quality standards.

Swimming pools: 4 pools. SPA with pool.

Restaurant: the food was of good quality, it was only the desserts that we didn’t like.

AI (all inclusive): none, we opted for dinner and breakfast.

Service: excellent.

Staff: helpful.

Cons: the hotel is more suited for adults, although it accepts children. In our opinion, a stay with babies would be ideal.

North Tenerife hotels for families with children

Hotel Las Aguilas

Location: Puerto de la Cruz, North Tenerife

Stars: 4*

Booking.com rating: 8.3

Travel 4 Kids rating: 8.5

Family rooms: available

Baby facilities: available.

Hotel & Rooms: the hotel is not new, but it’s tidy. The hotel is not new.  We booked a room with an ocean view. Spectacular panorama, very nicely landscaped surroundings, lots of grass (natural), flower beds, waterfalls.

Our room with a separate bedroom had a kitchenette to come in handy when travelling with babies. It’s true that it didn’t have any crockery, but I think it would be possible to get what you need if you needed it. Large balcony, air conditioning.

Plenty of space for cars next to the hotel, free parking.

Children’s room/club: available. Kids’ club from 4 years old, but it’s rather episodic and they didn’t attracked our children in the activities.

Swimming pools: two larger pools and one for the little ones. One pool is heated in winter.

Activities: sports and recreational activities.

Entertainment: evening performances. There are no entertainment performances during the day.

Restaurant: not much choice of food, but tasty, good quality. It might get boring during the week, but it was just right for a weekend.

AI (all inclusive): available. We tried it – enough of everything. Ice cream for children unlimited. Drinks unlimited. Fast food bar until 17:00. Cocktail bar in the evening.

Service: as the hotel is a German favourite, the staff are really helpful and polite.

Cons: the hotel is on a hill and far from the city centre. However, they do provide a shuttle bus service for a trip to downtown Puerto de la Cruz. And a detail that stuck out for us- even with all-inclusive accommodation, we had to leave a substantial deposit of 15 EUR/piece for pool towels.

Where to book: we booked through our partner system.

Travel 4 Kids rating: 10

Parking is free in the hotel’s secure car park.

We found fruit, wine, a welcome greeting and live flowers for the welcome in our room.

The room had a coffee machine, tea and coffee making facilities and free bottled water. The bathroom had all the necessary hygiene products, bathrobes and slippers. The rooms have night curtains, soundproofing and air conditioning.

The hotel is also suitable for business travellers, with a work desk, wifi, cable/satellite TV, a safe, and an iPod dock.

Room cleaning and preparation is impeccable – every evening you will have your bed made and ready for bed, and in the morning your room will be cleaned and prepared for your stay.

Children’s room/club: none. Older children can play pool and billiards.

Swimming pools: shared pool and several pools in the spa area (SPA are only for adults).

Activities: there is a fitness club, yoga and exercise classes.

SPA centre with massages with golden oils, volcanic stones etc.

We tried the relaxing massages. We really praise the spacious spa, which is unlike any other hotel in the Canary Islands. What’s impressive is that the spa has both outdoor and indoor areas. The outdoor pool is heated and there is also a hot jacuzzi on the cliff.

Entertainment: evening shows.

Restaurants: several restaurants serving Italian, Asian and Mediterranean cuisine. The hotel offers a wonderful breakfast with fresh juices, eggs benedict, fried omelettes and pancakes. The choice is really wide and everything is very fresh and tasty.

AI (all-inclusive): none. You can book bed and breakfast or breakfast and dinner.

Service: the staff is very helpful. All the 5* details – welcome, live flowers.
