Travel 4 Kids® shares with you useful tips and information on places to visit with children in the Canary Islands. If you are travelling in Tenerife, you can find attractions on the Tenerife Attractions Map of Travel 4 Kids®.

Tenerife is not only a great place for holidays, but also for culinary trips. The island offers not only gems of local Canarian cuisine, but also flavors from around the world. One such place that is definitely worth a visit is the recently opened Little Morocco, an authentic family restaurant in southern Tenerife that offers a unique Moroccan experience.

Just a year ago we visited Morocco – we and the kids loved the food, and we had been looking for Moroccan cuisine in Tenerife for a long time, so when we saw that a new restaurant had opened in Las Americas, we headed over to try the food and to share our experiences with you. This is the only Moroccan restaurant in South Tenerife so far and we highly recommend a visit. Why and what we liked, read this review.

Little Morocco: an authentic family restaurant in Tenerife – history

The story of Little Morocco started from a dream to create a place where people could experience the true Moroccan culture and flavors without leaving Tenerife. The founders of the restaurant, a Moroccan family, decided to bring the traditions of their native country to this island. Inspired by their family traditions and their love of Moroccan cuisine, they set out to create a place where everyone could enjoy authentic dishes.

The recently opened family restaurant is not even a place where you can taste authentic dishes made by the owner’s mother, but where you can talk to a very warm family, hear the owner’s story, and discuss Morocco, its culture, its culinary heritage and its tastes. The owner is a very friendly person, easy to get along with the guests, originally from Casablanca himself, and very fond of Marrakech. The family had a small takeaway restaurant in Morocco, and the young owner has a lot of experience in hotels and restaurants, so when he combined his knowledge with his mother’s cooking skills, he dared to open a Moroccan restaurant in Tenerife, where he now lives.

Atmosphere and environment

As soon as you enter Little Morocco, you are greeted by a warm and cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated with authentic Moroccan elements: colorful mosaics, exquisite tables, colorful and beautiful dishes. These details not only create visual pleasure, but also help you feel the true Moroccan spirit.

Tenerife authentic family restaurant Little Morocco is offering an exclusive menu

Little Morocco offers a wide selection of Moroccan cuisine.

What is Moroccan cuisine and what do we recommend you try at Little Morocco?

  • Tajine. Tajine, one of the main dishes of Moroccan cuisine. Little Morocco offers a variety of tajine options including chicken, beef, fish and vegetables. Slowly simmered in a special clay pot, this dish has a unique taste and aroma. We tried the chicken and lamb tajine, and it was definitely the lamb that was the most memorable and very highly recommended.
  • Couscous. Another traditional dish that is very popular in Morocco. In the restaurant you can choose from several variations served with different combinations of meat or vegetables. We tried it with chicken, which is our Greta’s favourite dish and one that she simply fell in love with after her trip to Morocco.
  • We also tried the traditional snacks – sweet and sour carrots, paprika and aubergine spread. The aubergine is my favourite – definitely try it. We had it all with homemade warm bread. For warm snacks, we tried Briwats – buns with chicken filling. Very tasty!
  • For dessert, we ate local delicacies and drank traditional mint tea. The latter is worthy of its own attention and is a real authentic ritual. The Moroccan tradition of mint tea dates back to the 19th century, when green tea was brought to the country from China. The tea quickly became popular and blended with local traditions and ingredients, especially fresh mint leaves. Today, mint tea is an integral part of Moroccan culture and is consumed daily. The tea ceremony is a special ritual in Morocco. Tea is usually served with sweets and is an important part of any gathering or celebration. Be sure to try it!

What will we come back for?

Here you can taste harira, a traditional Moroccan soup made with lentils, chickpeas and tomatoes. We are also very keen to try the fish tajine and, as we really liked the lamb tajine, we are also very curious to try the leg of mutton with saffron. And then there is the menu and the kefta. We doubt whether one time will be enough.

By the way, we are very fond of Moroccan breakfasts, so we very much hope to be able to come here in the future for brunch with msemen bread.

Service

The restaurant staff is friendly and helpful, ready to advise and help you choose dishes to suit your tastes. The atmosphere of the family restaurant makes you feel at home, and every guest is welcomed and treated with special attention.

Evening performances – shows

On weekends (Friday and Saturday) from 20:30, there is also an evening show. And it costs nothing! So we highly recommend you come with friends for a fun evening with exquisite food. I praise the dancer for being very good at communicating with the children and involving them in the performance.
