When the season changes, the most important thing we need to do is take care of our skin. Because weather, temperature, humidity and other environmental conditions affect your skin. Different seasons have different conditions that can affect the condition of your skin. Therefore, there are also different ways to take care of your skin in different seasons. Skin care during winter is not complicated, but it is important to know some basic rules
Skin care during winter, what’s important to know when the seasons change
Many people think that skin care during winter can be the same as summer or autumn, but unfortunately this is not the case. As the seasons change, so do many things, so skincare needs to change too. It is important to pay attention to the following things as the season changes:
- Moisture levels. In winter, the weather is drier, so the skin needs extra moisturising treatments to maintain the right level of moisture.
- Temperature changes. Sudden changes in temperature can affect the condition of the skin. For example, skin often becomes dry and sensitive during the cold season, while in summer it can be prone to oiliness.
- Allergens and irritants. Different seasons can bring with them different allergens that can affect skin conditions.
- Special skin needs. Certain skin problems, such as acne, hyperpigmentation or ageing, may require different care products depending on the season.
Skin care during winter
In winter, skin can become dry, sensitive and prone to various problems such as chafing, dryness, redness or itching. It is therefore important to take proper care of your skin during the cold season. Here are some tips for winter skin care:
- Moisturisation. Moisturisation is essential to keep your skin hydrated. Using a moisturising cream or lotion can help prevent dry skin, cracks and chapping. When choosing cosmetic products for the face or body, choose those specifically designed for strong hydration and nourishment.
- Hydration routine. Moisturise your skin at least twice a day, morning and evening. After a shower or bath, it is advisable to moisturise your skin without waiting too long, when the skin pores are open and can better absorb the moisturiser.
- Warm water. The water temperature in the shower or bath should be warmer than hot. Large temperature differences should be avoided.
- Sunscreen. Whether it’s summer or winter, sunscreen is still a must, especially if you’re outdoors when it snows. White snow reflects up to 80% of UV rays and is almost as likely to cause sunburn as direct sunlight. For our recommendations on sun creams, see our article The best sun cosmetics for children. Be sure to read our guide Why use sun care?
- Warm clothing. In cold weather, it’s important to dress properly to protect your skin from the cold and wind. A warm hat, gloves and jacket will help protect your skin from the cold.
- Cleansing. When choosing a cleanser, choose a mild skin care product without alcohol or strong chemicals.
- Adequate fluid intake. Drink enough water to keep the skin moist from the inside.
