Seville with children

“Travel 4 kids” visited Seville and shares its travel plan and recommendations. Although Seville is known for its historical monuments and architecture, here you will find many attractions that are suitable for families with children.

Greta and Oskaras have already visited many cities of the Spanish continent and would definitely confirm that Spain is a great destination with children – whether for a trip, a vacation or a weekend. And after a weekend in Seville, our whole family boldly says – Seville is a great travel destination with children!

When is the best time to travel to Seville?

Seville is the pearl of Andalusia, which is perfect to visit at any time of the year, but if you are traveling with children, it is best to choose spring or autumn. In summer, when temperatures can exceed 40 degrees, traveling with children can become a challenge.

We love traveling around Spain, especially the southern mainland, in the autumn. Just like last year, when we traveled to Malaga at the end of October, this year we set off for Seville in early November. Once again, we were spoiled with warm weather, avoided any rain, and simply enjoyed the autumn atmosphere, perfect for exploring and having fun.

Seville with children – what to visit?

As in all major European cities, we like to just walk around and visit the main attractions. Since we had already visited Seville without children, we were determined not only to get to know the city, but also to spend time having fun.

We planned the main attractions, which, by the way, which we highly recommend planning in advance – based on what we had already seen, what we hadn’t, and what we definitely wanted to show the kids. Although our trip took place in autumn, which isn’t peak tourist season, the most popular time slots still tend to get booked up quickly, even in the off-season.

Plaza de España

We planned to definitely visit the Plaza de España with the children, which is completely free to visit, but definitely mandatory. For me, this is the most beautiful square I have ever visited. The architecture and colors are simply mesmerizing, and you can also get to know the regions of Spain. The photos on the colorful mosaic benches will be simply amazing, and if you manage to do it, you will also see a flamenco performance. We made it both times we visited Seville. The square has canals where you can swim in small boats and a wonderful fountain.

Be sure to pass Seville Cathedral and the Giralda Tower on your way to other attractions. Impressive Gothic cathedral and its tower. There are spectacular views from the top. You can visit it – but you need to book in advance.

We didn’t plan this time, because to admire the city from above we chose another symbol of Seville – Seville mushrooms.

By the way, be sure to visit the Hotel Alfonso XIII, where you can enter the courtyard and lobby without restrictions. Hotel Alfonso XIII was built in 1928. The hotel’s architecture reflects traditional Andalusian style with Moorish, Gothic and Renaissance influences, making it a fine example of the region’s architecture.

Setas de Sevilla

Next, we headed to our pre-planned destination – Setas de Sevilla (The Mushrooms of Seville) – an architectural masterpiece. This site is considered the largest wooden structure in the world. We recommend visiting it at sunset and staying until the lights are turned on. Be sure to purchase tickets in advance.

Sunset and lighting hours are the most popular, so planning ahead is well worth it. We use a reliable ticket and entertainment booking system for this purpose.

Royal Palace Alcarzar

Another pre-planned site that we chose to visit in the morning hours is the Alcarzar Royal Palace. Reservations are required in advance.

The Alcazar Palace is a fine example of Moorish architecture. It is one of the oldest royal palaces still in use in Europe. It was started in the 11th century as a Moorish fort and later became a royal residence. The palace reflects the history of Seville and all of Andalusia. Since 1987, the Alcazar has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Alcazar Gardens are a special attraction. With fountains, flower beds, peacocks. Be sure to find the mazes in the gardens – the kids loved it! Just don’t run one because they are really misleading.

What would I recommend and what mistake did we make? The palace is extremely beautiful and large, and so are the gardens. Next time I would definitely pay a bit more but take the guided tour. This would help you to add highlights, understand the most important places of interest in the palace and hear their history. Good price and I definitely think the guided palace is worth considering.

You can hire an audio guide on the spot, but especially when visiting with children, it would be more convenient for the guide to show you all the most interesting corners of the palace.

Museums in Seville

We didn’t make it, but I was able to visit several museums:

  • Bullfight. Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza. 1 hour guided tour – looks like a really interesting tour. You will visit the Bullfighting Museum, learn the purpose of bullfighting and its history. You’ll see original bullfighter costumes, capes, and more. Bullfighting is already banned in many cities of Spain, but it is still “alive” in movies or even in the movie “Ferdinand the Bull”, beloved by our children.
  • The Flamenco Museum is located in Seville’s old town, a five-minute walk from the cathedral and the Giralda. This interactive museum was founded by Cristina Hoyos, one of the most famous dancers and choreographers in history. Museum of Flamenco Dance, where you can see dresses from different eras, interactive displays and art exhibits.
  • Museum of Illusions. We really like to visit illusion museums, but we didn’t have time for that this time.

Seville with children – entertainment

Isla Magica

As we mentioned before, we traveled to Seville with the purpose of not only seeing, but also entertainment. The trip was Greta’s birthday present from our family.

That’s why we dedicated one day of our weekend in Seville to the Isla Magica amusement park.

The park is only open seasonally, from April to the end of October, and we managed to visit it precisely on the last Halloween weekend, after which the park closes its doors until spring.

This amusement and theme park is designed on the principle of a theme park and has many attractions and activities suitable for visitors of all ages. In the park, you will find a wide range of attractions, starting from easy, slow rides for the smallest visitors (from 90 cm tall), to extreme roller coasters for older and adults.

Isla Magica is divided into several themed areas, each representing a different historical or geographical era. Next to Isla Mágica is Agua Mágica, a water park that is sure to be a lot of fun to visit during the summer.

And a few Isla Magica water attractions were enough for us – we managed to get wet, dry and get wet again.

You can spend the whole day in the park, we arrived before 12pm and left after 9pm. There are smaller queues in the morning and evening hours, noon is the busiest. Therefore, in the evening we repeated where the most, and it would be unforgivable not to see the illuminated rides and carousels.

The park regularly hosts various shows and performances. These amusements give you the opportunity to rest between attractions. The park is perfect for families with children. Here you will find many restaurants, fast food, recreation areas, and children’s playground. WC are perfectly adapted for children, there are baby changing areas.

Seville Aquarium

The Aquarium of Seville has recently been renovated and is said to be very worthwhile. And the tickets are very attractively priced.

Seville with children – practical information

Where to stay with children in Seville?

When staying in Seville with children, it is worth choosing an area that is safe, convenient for public transport and close to the main attractions and parks.

  • Santa Cruz – is one of the oldest and most charming neighborhoods in Seville, located next to the Alcazar Palace and Seville Cathedral. Although it can be quite touristy, the area offers an authentic Seville experience and is close to many historical sites.
  • El Arenal – The neighborhood is located near the river and is a good choice for families who want to be close to cultural attractions and have easy access to pleasant waterfront promenades. There are also many cafes and restaurants where you can have a delicious meal.
  • Triana – is a district on the other side of the Guadalquivir River, known for its pottery workshops and markets. The area is a bit quieter than the central part of the city, giving more of an authentic Spanish atmosphere to life.
  • Parque de María Luisa and surrounding areas – next to the largest and most beautiful park in the city – Parque de María Luisa. This area is ideal for those looking for a quieter environment. The park has plenty of space for children to play.

Where did we live in Seville?

We lived this time in the Triana area and if we return to Seville again, we would choose accommodation here. All attractions can be reached on foot, the bus station is also accessible by crossing the river. We took a non-stop bus to Isla Magica.

We lived in a small apartment in the center of Triana, where we had everything we needed. There was even a washing machine with a dryer. This is extremely important to us, as we always travel with only backpacks. A great place for a family with two children, if you only need accommodation for a night’s rest.

You can find more accommodation options in our partner system. By the way, this time we also received a gift – after the evening flight, a driver was already waiting for us at the airport – he delivered us in just 30 minutes right at the door of the house.

Where to eat with children in Seville? “Travel 4 kids” recommendations

Those of you who follow us know that we never miss an opportunity to visit local markets. Seville is no exception. Since we lived in the Triana area, Mercado de Triana is here. It is one of the city’s culinary and cultural attractions. Do you want to get to know the local cuisine or buy fresh products? The market has many small bars and restaurants where you can taste tapas, freshly prepared paella, feel the rhythm and mood of the locals.

You can also visit another food market, more like a food court – Lonja de Barranco on the other side. But for us personally, it was more cozy and authentic in the Triana market.

We also share the discovered places that we confidently recommend to you:

  • What we liked the most was the newly discovered ramen place – Tsuruta Ramen. We even went there several times. Both the interior, the food, and the service suited and pleased us very much. Be sure to pick at least a few ramen, that’s what this place is about.
  • Nikkei Peruvian and Japanese cuisine restaurants. Those of you who follow us know that Peruvian cuisine is a must-visit for us when we travel. We found that both restaurants are next to each other and it is possible to order dishes from one restaurant while sitting in the other. By the way, there are more of these restaurants in Seville, not only in the Triana area.
  • Ice cream parlor Martonela, where you can also get crepes. Homemade ice cream place near the Triana market – I don’t know how you will be lucky, but we tasted it and could choose the tastiest ones. The saleswoman was very friendly and attentive, although she certainly did not miss the work of preparing home-made ice cream in the morning hours.

We found another restaurant in Atavico on our way from Europa Square. Very high quality food, exceptional menu. We highly recommend the Keto Rolls and the Portobello Burger.

Transport

Seville’s public transport – buses and trams – is easy to use and suitable for traveling with children. Alternatively, bicycles or electric scooters can be rented. Special buses run between the airport and the city.

Great and affordable connectivity – Bolt and Uber.

Seville is a city that can offer plenty of entertainment and attractions for the whole family. From historical monuments and theme parks to leisurely walks and cultural experiences, every moment here will be special. And my family and I still want to discover more than one Spanish city, but it seems that we will return to Seville again – it is a children’s dream to visit Aqua Magica.
