Natural pools in Tenerife – one of the founders of „Travel 4 kids ®“ Jolita’s family, with her children Greta and Oskaras, visited natural pools in Tenerife and prepared a list for you.
These natural pools, also called “Charcos”, are formed from rocks that have been washed away by the water in such a way that they even form natural baths or pools filled with ocean water. In Tenerife, these natural creations are great places to relax, and their free admission attracts both locals and tourists. Some of them have the entire infrastructure installed – steps, paths, fences, or even formed and arranged swimming pools. We will mention a few of them, but I have no doubt that you will discover more, smaller pools and charcos that you like.

Natural pools in the town of La Jaca
Recently discovered, but already loved by our family – the natural pool in the town of La Jaca. Especially safe with children – because it is fenced off from the ocean, there are no waves and it is shallow at the beginning and easy to enter. There are smaller pools nearby, but we especially like the big one. And for those who want wavy water and a more extreme swim, there is a convenient access to the open ocean on the other side of the barrier. Parents and older children will definitely like it. Although there is no lifeguard and no infrastructure, the water of exceptional color, swimming fishes and a quiet place will definitely appeal to families with children. Be sure to bring appropriate goggles or masks for snorkeling.

Los Gigantes Natural Pool
A rocky natural pool in the southern part of the island, separated from the sea by a concrete barrier, is popular for watching sunsets. Be extremely careful – it is not safe to swim with children and even adults if there are big waves in the ocean. Be sure to pay attention to the flag and follow the instructions and obey the prohibitions.

Bajamar natural pools
Despite the strength of the waves in the open sea, a visit to the natural pools of Bajamar, located in the northeast of Tenerife, is always a pleasure. The pools are fully equipped – there are steps and railings. Close to changing rooms, WC and even showers.
Shops and restaurants nearby. If you’re visiting on a rough day, get your camera ready – Bajamar Beach is a particular favorite of our family – not only for the swimming, but also for the wave ‘therapy’.

Lago Martianez Natural Pool Park
This is a complex of outdoor pools located in Puerto de la Cruz. The total area is approximately 100,000 square meters, centered around an artificial lake. The park was designed in the mid-1970s by the famous local artist César Manrique from Lanzarote, who created the complex using elements of traditional Canarian architecture and local flora.
It’s a great park for a relaxing break, perhaps even more suitable with babies. The complex has three pools for children. The price for such a vacation is very attractive. You can buy drinks and snacks in the area. But older kids might find it a bit boring. The northern part of the island can also be a disadvantage for water activities in the winter season.
