Lodz Science Center

The Lodz Science Center is one of the most impressive that we have visited with our family in all of Europe. It also has a unique exhibition “Street of Elements”, which is like a science center adapted to the smallest children. If you are looking for an interesting place to visit with children, you must travel to Lodz. We guarantee that this science center will not only surprise the whole family, but will also make you squeal with delight.

Lodz Science Center

The Lodz Science Center is one of the most interesting and unique that we have visited with my family in all of Europe. Not only is the science center itself impressive, but the buildings themselves and the entire science center complex are impressive.

The science center itself is located almost in the very center of the city. About 15 minutes on foot from the main street of the city. The science center is located in the 20th century in the commercial thermal power plant built at the beginning, which operated even until the 2000s. The entire territory is highly urbanized, modernly arranged – this project received billions of investments from the European Union. However, there is a lot of authenticity and uniqueness left.

In the whole complex there is not only a science center, but also a planetarium, a cinema hall, and a cultural center.

We were most surprised not only by the complex itself, the uniqueness and interest of the science center, the “Street of Elements” exhibition for children, but also by the fact that there are very few people here. There were no long lines, the exhibits were in excellent working condition, nothing was worn out, and there were plenty of staff available to explain everything.

The science center features 150 different exhibits and covers an exhibition area of over 8,000 square meters. Various exhibitions and specialized educational programs are held here regularly.

Parts of Lodz Science Center

The EC1 Science Center is divided into three sections. Our biggest recommendation is to allow plenty of time, as the center is both fascinating and quite large. We can guarantee that any child will thoroughly enjoy it!

“Energy Recycling”

This is the most unique part of the Lodz Science and Technology Center EC1 exhibition. Historical exhibits, modern simulators, and computer games all come together to not only showcase the history of this remarkable place but also demonstrate energy production technologies still in use today.

“Development of Knowledge and Civilization”

Explore the laws of nature and science, and the discoveries that have shaped the civilization we live in. At the EC1 Science and Technology Center in Lodz, visitors engage with reality through touch, games, hands-on experiences, and experiments.

“Microcosm – Macrocosm”

Discover what is invisible to the naked eye. The EC1 Science and Technology Center unveils the most incredible secrets of the universe – from viewing butterfly wings under an electron microscope to observing the farthest reaches of space. Before visiting, be sure to check the schedule for specific educational sessions.

The science center provides English explanations for all the exhibits, something we feel is unfortunately lacking at the Copernicus Science Center. There are also many impressive interactive exhibits. Motiejus especially enjoyed the laser printer, which allows you to print out your own drawings.

Additionally, it’s worth visiting the planetarium. While there’s an extra fee, it’s definitely worth it. The planetarium features a stunning 14-meter diameter screen with 8K resolution, allowing you to explore our galaxy in breathtaking detail!

EC1 “Street of Elements” exhibition for children

The “Street of Elements” exhibition is unique space for children. If you are planning to visit the science center, you must definitely visit this exhibition. We have never seen such a specialized exhibition for children anywhere before.

It is a unique space for science and experiments, which is intended for children from 3/4 years old.

It is a 3-floor, 1,500-square-meter center for experiments and activities. The exhibition is divided into 5 thematic zones related to the elements of water, earth, air, fire and life.

You can enter the exhibition through the second floor. It has the most activities that are designed to develop touch and hearing. Children can touch various shapes, textures and materials. We can feel the wind when we go down to the first floor with a tube slide (from 6 years old).

On the first floor, children will be able to look at the world through the eyes of an animal. But we have no doubt that children will like the water and fire zone the most. Here you can create fountains, play with water guns, sail boats, and build locks.

In fact, there are so many activities here that two hours is far too short.

All experiments and exhibits are presented understandable and interesting for children. The exhibition is modern, neat and clean. The exhibits are well protected and the number of people is limited.

Visiting the “Street of Elements” exhibition

“Street of Elements” is located in the same complex as the EC1 science center.

We recommend purchasing tickets online in advance, as the number of people admitted at one time is limited (only 110), so tickets may simply run out. From Tuesday to Friday, you can enter the exhibition at 09:00, 11:30 and 14:00, on Saturday and Sunday at 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00. Two hours are allotted for the visit.

You need to take shoes to change or have socks. Ask the staff – they can give you bags on your shoes. In the summer, it is especially important to take socks, because it is really uncomfortable and not fun to be barefoot.

By the way, there is no cafe or restaurant inside, so you have to have a drink and a snack.

On your way to Lodz, you must also visit one of the largest water parks in Poland – Lodz Water Park.
