Hair care when traveling

During travelling, we take care of everything – the contents of the suitcases, catching the kids at the airport, the accommodation, the most interesting routes, the sunscreen. But do you often think about hair care when traveling? If you find that your hair is more tired than you are after travelling, here are some tips to change that.

Hair care when traveling

The health of the hair and scalp has been important to people since ancient times. Women used to pamper their hair with natural oils and herbal infusions. Our folk medicine hasn’t been left behind – even our mothers or grandmothers could tell you about the use of egg, petroleum, castor or hemp oil for the beauty of hair. Nowadays, hair seems to get even more attention. However, travelling and holidays take our minds off other things and hair doesn’t seem to be the most important thing now. It will endure, after all. But hair care when traveling is just as important as it is at home.

There are all sorts of dangers in the travel years. Different weather conditions, temperature differences and air-conditioning, direct sun, hats, helmets – all of these put so much stress on the hair that when we return from a trip, we often find that it’s weakened, dried out and has lost its usual shine.

Dandruff is also a common problem, especially after the use of improper hair washing products, and can be particularly damaging not only to your look but also to your mood. Snowflakes falling out of the head do not inspire confidence.

Is it possible to ensure that hair is properly cared for when travelling, without taking up too much time or costing too much effort? Here are our time-tested tips.

TOP 10 tips – hair care while travelling

Routine

Try to keep up your normal hair hygiene routine – if you wash your hair every 2 days, try to keep the same regularity during your trip or holiday.

Hair care products

Ideally, when travelling, you should have your usual hair care products that work best for you. This will save you money, time and health. New and unfamiliar products may not only be unsuitable for your hair and scalp, but may also cause more damage, such as dryness, allergies and dandruff. At home and on our travels, we are always accompanied by the indispensable DERMEDIC CAPILARTE scalp and hair care products, which we wholeheartedly recommend to everyone.

Hotel cosmetics

Although it is convenient that the hotel gives you disposable cosmetic kits to use and a dispenser of all-purpose soap for body and hair in the shower, you should not use them for long periods of time – these are usually low-quality products with synthetic fillers that quickly dry out the skin and deprive the hair of all its shine, contributing to dandruff and itching.

Balm

The most effective way to protect the hair is with conditioners, which should be chosen according to your hair type. The perfect conditioner for the warm season should be rinse-free and contain UV filters.

Hair mask

Wherever you are, try to treat your hair to a special restorative mask once a week. If you don’t have a beauty kit, you can simply use natural products in your kitchen, such as natural olive oil or other products such as egg yolk (for very dry hair), egg white (for oily hair), yoghurt (for moisturising, shine), honey+olive oil+olive oil mixture, etc. It should be applied half an hour before washing.

Sun

Our best friend, but unfortunately it can be very damaging to our hair. We suggest wearing head coverings, or if you’re really keen on going hatless, try special protective sprays with SPF filters for your hair.

Swimming pool

The chlorine in swimming pool water penetrates the hair and damages its structure, weakening it, especially if it is already dry and damaged. After swimming in the pool, we recommend rinsing your hair at least with plain shower water and preferably with a mild shampoo and a spray/applied hair conditioner. If you swim in the pool often, use a swimming cap.

Nutrition

All cosmetic products are useless if your diet is incomplete. Choose natural products, avoid preservatives, eat a balanced diet, lots of vegetables, oils and fruit, and you will not only have shiny hair, but also glowing and youthful skin.

Water

Make sure you drink plenty of water and keep a water bottle handy. The water reserves in your body will help maintain proper moisture in your scalp and hair. Avoid sugary fruit waters.

Hairstyles

Sweating is reduced and hair is less likely to split if it is tied lightly, without tension. It is important to be aware that increased sweating, sebum secretion, increased consumption of carbohydrates and various sugary foods, imbalance the scalp microbiota, and bacteria and fungi start to proliferate abundantly and rapidly, which can lead to the formation of abscesses (folliculitis), the development of dandruff, and itchy scalp.

How we look after our hair when travelling

We’ve written about DERMEDIC products many times before, and for good reason. This cosmetic came into our home with our children and over the years, as we have tried new products from this company, we have been very satisfied each time.

This is also the case with hair care products. Although we have tried products from many different manufacturers, DERMEDIC CAPILARTE is really exceptional – it is suitable for the most sensitive skin, even for scalps that have been tortured by all the pregnancies and the postpartum periods. It is suitable for both winter and summer, because it deeply nourishes the scalp itself and strengthens the hair barrier, without weighing it down.

That’s why it’s the perfect cosmetic for travelling and holidays, where hair is exposed to a lot of extra stress, temperature changes, sun, cold, pool chemicals, sea salts and sweat.
