The Railway Museum

The Railway Museum has been counting its years since 1966. The Railway Museum is located in the historical passenger hall of the Vilnius railway station built in the 19th century.

During its years of operation, the Railway Museum has accumulated about 14,000 exhibits of railway history. The Railway Museum also has an outdoor exhibition, where more than thirty exhibits of various historical railway equipment are exhibited.

In the spring of 2022, the renovated museum opened its doors to visitors after a 2.5-year hiatus. The main idea of a modern museum is a “Colorful journey”! Many different spaces divided into stations and platforms await visitors here! These are Train, Signal, Work and other stations, where visitors independently or accompanied by a guide will be able to discover the secrets of railway history with the help of interactive tools. We invite you to dive into the work of a train driver, with the help of an interactive floor you can open the backstage of the railway depot, and in the projections of the Paneriai tunnel, you can find out what is hidden in the tunnel when the trains stop. At the Children’s Station, intended for the youngest guests of the museum, you will see a working model of the Little Children’s Railway and stumble upon the Challenges, Toddlers, Knowledge or Games platforms. The exhibition can also be visited with an audio guide, which will be assigned free of charge by the museum staff.
